Ever wonder how artificial reefs are made? 🪸 Jeff Weakley headed out of Fort Pierce Inlet to watch the Saint Lucie County Artificial Reef Programs deployment of boulders and construction debris on the Lee Harris Memorial Reef site—one of three new deployments in the area—in an effort to increase habitat for reef-dwelling species like snapper, cobia, kingfish and grouper. In the July issue of Florida Sportsman Magazine, Jeff dives further into the various artificial reef programs around the state, covering ways you can help support these efforts and reap the benefits of the new structures.
