I need something rigid enough for my autism and varied enough for my ADHD. It’s like threading a needle. I don’t plan my workouts beforehand, instead I do a choose your own adventure” type of workout. I follow a push, pull, legs split and go into the gym with a body part I want to train that day and then I pick exercises that target that area specifically. I do 3-4 sets of an exercise at weight that leads to failure in 8-12 reps then move on. I don’t track fats or carbs, just protein (120g). I ate about 500 below my maintenance TDEE (total calories your body burns in a day including exercise) which ended up being 2400 calories. Now I eat 2800-3000 cal to maintain 185lbs at 5’3. Most importantly though- I found embrace autism, an organization founded by Dr. Natalie Engelbrecht MSc ND RP: a psychotherapist who discovered their autism at age 46. The site has access to autism assessments as well as descriptions of the purpose of the screening and how to interpret results for FREE.
