Many years ago I did background for a show which only needed me for two hours. I spent more time preparing for and travelling for the job than I actually spent at the job. Although for non-union actors they round your pay up to four hours, at the time it amounted to only $66. After paying your background agent their commission, you’re left with $60. The work itself was fine. But it left me with a distaste for background work. You really have to love it because as a non-union actor, you certainly aren’t going to get rich from it. Today I returned to background because I have always wanted to do this kind of role (which I cannot disclose, and the name of the show I also cannot say). I love this genre of TV show. It is one of the three top shows on one of the streaming services.
