Antas do Barrocal (Barrocal Dolmen) is in the magical Évora, Portugal… ⠀ This megalithic site is thought to be a ‘burial chamber’ built between the 3rd and 4th millenia BCE. ⠀ It seems like all of these ancient and sacred sites are labelled as tombs or burial chambers after we have completely forgotten their original purpose. We visited the gorgeous São Lourenço do Barrocal a while ago, but never got round to sharing these moments from our trip. 😊 São Lourenço do Barrocal is a 19th-century farm estate retreat in Alentejo, set amidst ancient oaks, olive groves, and vineyards. The vast 7.8 million square metre estate offers various types of accommodation including suites, cottages, and cabins, and bikes are provided to get around easily and explore. The estate also produces its own wine, which is excellent. 🍷 The estate, which has been in the same family for 200 years, was carefully brought back to life as a luxury hotel with the help of prize-winning architect Eduardo Souto de Moura and interior design studio Anahory Almeida. Local artisans contributed to the interior design in the guest rooms where antique objects and furniture from the estate were used, alongside contemporary Portuguese pieces. We loved our stay here, especially the delicious organic farm breakfast, with artisanal bread from Alentejo and local delicacies.
