You may wish to wash your baselayers every 3-5 uses, but you definitely don’t need to wash them after every wear!
Wool is definitely the best choice for baselayers, for all seasons. It regulates your body temperature to keep you warm (or cool), is self-cleaning, and if your wool set is from @karitraa it will also look incredibly cute and flattering! 🩷 Here are some tips for keeping your wool garments happy for a very long time!!
1) To go longer between washes, air them out by hanging outside. This helps the environment (uses no energy) and will help you preserve the quality of the wool for much longer.
Wool is naturally antimicrobial and antibacterial, so you can wear wool clothing for many days (even sweaty ones) without it smelling bad, which is not the case for synthetic garments.
2) To clean your wool:
- Zip any zippers
- Wash with similar colors
- Avoid washing with other fabrics besides wool as it can leave a residue on your other clothes
- Use the wool or delicate setting
- Use a gentle wool detergent (not a normal detergent)
- Wash with COLD water to prevent shrinking your clothes!
- Remove promptly
- Lay flat to dry
- Do not tumble dry!
3) To store your baselayers, fold them gently and loosely. If you put yours away after winter, use a container that will keep them safe from moisture and insects (I wear mine year round living in Lofoten so I never put my baselayers or sweaters away hehe).
