SHE wanted to be famous. JESUS wanted her to be a nun - and she listened! After dying in an earthquake in Ecuador on April 16, 2016, she's on her way toward beatification. As news of her life and witness spreads, it looks like Sr. Clare is getting a different - and much better - kind of acclaim! 🎥 "All or Nothing: Sister Clare Crockett" on EWTN Video Credit: Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother: https://loom.ly/Lhk9zK0

Dr. Peter J. Howard is the Fulton Sheen champion. Hands down, he has been the most tireless advocate for Fulton J. Sheen over the last six years. When Sheen was shrouded in controversy and many lost confidence, Peter did not. He remained steadfast. He has carried this cause forward to the highest offices of the Church and even to Pope Leo himself. Through prayer, fasting, preaching, rallies, petitions, courses, relic tours, pilgrimages, retreats, and countless one on one encounters, heart to heart and cor ad cor, Dr. Howard is bringing Fulton Sheen into the new era. He is laying his life down for this mission, just as Sheen did for souls, and as Christ did in the ultimate way on the Cross. The Vatican has announced that the beatification cause of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen can finally move forward after a six-year pause that began when his originally scheduled December 2019 ceremony was abruptly postponed. Bishop Louis Tylka of Peoria, Illinois — where Sheen served and where his cause is based — confirmed that the Holy See informed him the process can proceed to beatification, the next step toward declaring Sheen “Blessed.” The diocese is now working with the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Causes of Saints to set the details of the upcoming celebration, though no date has yet been announced. Sheen, a noted 20th-century preacher and media evangelist, was long admired for his use of radio and television to spread the Catholic faith. The beatification cause had been stalled not only by the last-minute 2019 postponement but also by earlier disputes, including a legal battle over the location of Sheen’s remains and concerns raised about his handling of clergy assignments during his time as bishop of Rochester, New York. Those issues — thoroughly reviewed and with no allegations of abuse against Sheen himself — contributed to the delay, but the process has now resumed. Supporters view the renewed approval as a long-anticipated step forward in honoring Sheen’s legacy as an influential evangelist and religious communicator.

The Holy See has officially informed Bishop Louis Tylka of the Diocese of Peoria, Illinois, that the cause for the Venerable Servant of God Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen can proceed to beatification, according to an announcement from the diocese. “The next step in the process is the celebration of the beatification, in which Fulton Sheen would be declared Blessed,” Tylka said. “Archbishop Fulton Sheen was one of the greatest voices of evangelization in the Church and the world in the 20th century. I have long admired his lifelong commitment to serve the Church as a priest, rooted in his deep devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Eucharist.” “As he journeyed through the different stages of his life, his ability to share the Gospel and truly relate to people drew countless souls into an encounter with Jesus — one that transformed not only his life, but more importantly, the lives of those he touched.” “In his later years, particularly through his work for the Missions, Archbishop Sheen helped us recognize that the Church is meant for all people. He reminded us that as members of the Church, we are called to serve everyone, especially those most in need and those longing to hear and experience the Gospel, wherever they may be in the world,” he said. Tylka thanked the Holy See, his brother bishops, clergy, and laypeople for the collaboration and prayers that led to Sheen’s beatification, which will be “a special blessing for the Church in the United States, where he was a powerful evangelist on radio, television, and in personal appearances.” The Diocese of Peoria is working with the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints at the Vatican to determine the details for the upcoming beatification. Pope Leo XIV, the first U.S.-born pope, has authorized the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints to move forward with the Beatification of Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, clearing the way for his beatification later this year. As National Director of The Pontifical Mission Societies USA (1950–1966), Archbishop Sheen helped shape the missionary soul of the U.S. Church. Through his prophetic use of media, he invited millions to pray for, support, and love the missions he championed. His legacy lives on in every mission chapel where the Eucharist is celebrated, in every child formed in a mission school, and in every young Church strengthened through your prayers and generosity. Over the coming days, we will share exclusive content celebrating his missionary life and spirituality. Follow us to join the journey — and to honor his legacy by supporting the missions he loved.

Most of you know the priest whose feast we celebrate today: St. Maximilian Kolbe! I was honored to be at his beatification, where the man whose life he saved in Auschwitz offered the gifts during the Mass.
