Ben Reilly first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #149 (1975), created by Gerry Conway and Ross Andru—but his true impact wouldn’t be felt until the infamous Clone Saga of the 1990s. As a clone of Peter Parker, Ben carries all of Peter’s memories… but none of his sense of belonging. After years on the run trying to find his own purpose, he returns to New York and takes on the mantle of the Scarlet Spider, rocking a DIY suit topped with a sleeveless hoodie—one of the most iconic alternate Spidey looks. For a time, Marvel even positioned Ben as the real Spider-Man, with Peter stepping away from the role. It was a bold move that divided fans, but cemented Ben as more than just a copy—he was his own person, with his own struggles.
