Not to be dramatic but… a consistent bedtime routine is doing a LOT more than you think
It’s not about the bath or the book
It’s about the predictability
When your baby knows what’s coming next…
their body starts winding down before you even put them in the crib…..and that’s where bedtime gets easier!
Less fighting you at put down, less second winds
& less upset at the end of the day.
And no it doesn’t need to be long or aesthetic
Honestly… simple wins every time!!
Just do the same steps in the same order…
Every night.
That’s what lets the know that sleep is coming rather than being blindsided.
If bedtime currently feels like a disaster always… this is one of the first things I’d suggest.
And if your nights are messy too…

Every time a baby suddenly starts waking more overnight, fighting naps, or protesting bedtime… parents assume it’s a sleep regression.
And sometimes it is.
But honestly?
Most of the time it’s a schedule issue.
As babies grow, their wake windows change quickly.
What worked two weeks ago might suddenly stop working — which can lead to night wakes, short naps, or bedtime battles.
A small schedule adjustment can make a huge difference.
Save this for when sleep suddenly falls apart.

Once your baby hits 4 months… bedtime BEFORE 8PM is a game-changer ⏰💛
Here’s why 👇
🌙 1. Body clock finally kicks in
Your baby starts following a natural sleep rhythm
😵💫 2. Late bedtime = overtired baby
And overtired babies fight sleep MORE
📈 3. Growth loves early-night sleep
Deep sleep before midnight supports development
🌅 4. Fewer early-morning wakeups
Late nights = 5AM parties 🥲
🔁 5. Predictable routine for YOU
Because moms need rest too 🤍
⏳ 6. Matches their wake windows
Helps baby fall asleep faster & stay asleep longer
—
💛 Sometimes it’s not about doing more…
it’s about doing it at the right time

It’s 2:17am…
You’ve already been up three times.
You did the bedtime routine perfectly.
You followed the wake windows.
You used the schedule your friend swore by.
And yet your baby is still waking every 1–2 hours and can’t get back to sleep unless you rock, feed, or hold them.
You haven’t done anything to “ruin” your baby’s sleep, and you’re not destined to never sleep again.
Some babies easily begin sleeping longer stretches around 8-12 weeks.
But for a lot, even if you have the bedtime routine, right wake windows, and sound machine, they still need help.
That thing that your baby needs to fall back asleep? It’s not a “bad habit,” but something called a 𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐭 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.
It’s how their brain has learned to fall asleep. Kind of similar to how some adults need the tv on to go to bed.
But the surprising thing is, your baby isn’t actually waking up more often than other babies.
Let me explain 👇🏼
Sleep is structured in cycles. Every 60–90 minutes, a baby’s brain briefly surfaces into lighter sleep between sleep cycles.
Biologically, sleep cycles act as a built-in safety mechanism by regularly bringing babies into lighter stages of sleep. These frequent partial “rouses” help by preventing them from staying in deep, unresponsive sleep for too long.
Babies who “sleep through the night” don’t wake up less and aren’t better sleepers.
They’ve just learned how to connect sleep cycles and fall asleep on their own.
𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦.
And if your baby isn’t doing this on their own, guess what?!
This skill can be taught gently, in a way that fits your baby’s temperament and your parenting style.
Research shows that sleep training is 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞 and effective to improve infant sleep for healthy, full-term babies by 4+ months.
And I’m not even talking about cry-it-out. There are many other, more responsive approaches!
When your baby can fall asleep in the crib without needing you to rock, feed, or replace the pacifier, you’ll start seeing:
✨Longer night stretches
✨Fewer wakeups
✨Longer naps
✨Better sleep for your baby 𝒂𝒏𝒅 you

Your baby falls asleep…
but the night still keeps breaking 😩
You feed them.
You rock them.
You try everything.
And somehow… they’re awake again a couple hours later.
Around 3–6 months, many babies stop linking sleep cycles automatically. Without a clear rhythm guiding the night, sleep often turns into short stretches and frequent wake-ups.
Once I stopped guessing and followed age-appropriate sleep timing, nights slowly became calmer and stretches started getting longer.
Not perfect overnight.
But much more predictable.
If your baby is 3–6 months and waking constantly at night, the gentle 7-day reset many parents use is in the link in my Bio.

If your baby wakes frequently at night, you’re not alone.
Many parents assume something is wrong with their baby’s sleep.
But most night waking comes down to a few common things:
• overtired babies
• sleep associations
• inconsistent bedtime routines
Babies naturally wake between sleep cycles throughout the night.
The difference is whether they know how to fall back asleep.
When babies have the right wake windows, consistent routines, and the opportunity to fall asleep independently, night sleep often improves dramatically.

Bedtime turns into a battle
Every single night
Crying
Fighting sleep
Refusing to settle
So you think
Maybe they’re not tired enough
And you push bedtime later
But it keeps getting worse
Here’s why
When babies stay awake too long
Their body gets overtired
And instead of falling asleep easily
They become harder to settle
More crying
More resistance
More wake ups later
It’s not that they don’t need sleep
It’s that they needed it earlier
The right timing changes everything

If your 3–6 month baby wakes every 45–90 minutes at night, many parents assume something is wrong.
Especially when you just got them back to sleep… and they wake again.
Around this age, babies’ night sleep patterns often start shifting. When nights don’t adjust with that change, sleep can keep restarting again and again.
That’s why nights start feeling like a loop.
Sleep.
Wake.
Settle.
Sleep again… then wake.
The good news is that when nights start following the right structure again, those longer stretches usually begin coming back.
If you want to see the simple reset many exhausted parents use during this stage, you can find the guide in my profile.

A mom came to me because her baby was waking up 6 times every night.
She thought something was wrong.
But the real issue was the bedtime routine.
Once we fixed 3 small things:
• the last nap
• bedtime timing
• how baby fell asleep
Everything changed.
Night wakings dropped within a few days 🌙

I’m about to say the unthinkable: Wake. That. Baby. 📢
We’ve all heard “never wake a sleeping baby” myth, but if you want a predictable schedule and a 12-hour night, that rule has to go ASAP.
Here is why I recommend it:
💤 Protect the night sleep: Long afternoon naps can “steal” sleep from the night. It’s okay to gently wake them up and reset. ☀️
💤 Prioritise daytime calories: Ensuring they get enough full feeds during the day means fewer “hunger wakes” at 3 AM. 🍼
💤 Lock in the body clock: Keeping a consistent morning wake-up time helps regulate their circadian rhythm so they know exactly when it’s time for bed. ⏰
💤 Balance the sleep pressure: Too much day sleep = a baby who thinks 2 AM is party time. 💃

One of the biggest myths parents hear is that all babies should sleep 12 hours overnight.
But many babies naturally fall closer to 10–11 hours of overnight sleep.
So if a baby’s overnight capacity is around 10.5 hours, a 7:00pm bedtime can easily lead to a 5:30 wake up.
That’s not your baby being a bad sleeper, that’s just sleep math.
When we expect longer nights than a baby’s body can actually produce, the extra time in bed often shows up as:
✨early morning wakes
✨split nights
Understanding your baby’s true overnight sleep capacity can make overnight sleep improve.

I used to dread bedtime.
Because I already knew how the night would go:
Rocking forever
Feeding again and again
2am. 4am. 5:30 wake-ups.
And everyone kept saying, “It’s normal.”
But it didn’t feel normal.
It felt exhausting. It felt never-ending.
Then I made one small shift.
Within a few nights, the constant wake-ups started settling.
By the end of the week, our nights felt calm and predictable.
No harsh methods.
No guilt.
Just real rest for both of us.
