🤎 Using Icelandic Bind Off for fingerless mitts 🤎 I'm trying to finish the last of the Christmas gifts and I used Icelandic Bind Off for these mitts! Like this post if you're going to try this bind off 😍 Pattern: Cityscape Mitts by @toriknitsnyc Yarn: Sunset Moth by @badsheepyarn P.S. I know some people like to bind off in pattern but I've just never liked the look so this gave me the perfect amount of stretch 😉
After being a lifelong right-handed knitter, I taught myself continental style over lockdown. You tension with your left hand, so you’re not constantly passing the yarn back and forth — which means you can knit faster. Then I thought… if I’m knitting with two colours, why not hold one in my left and one in my right and just use both at the same time? So I did. Turns out that’s actually the traditional Selbu way of knitting colourwork mittens. And once your hands can do it automatically, it’s easier to follow the pattern because your hands stay on the needles the whole time. Anyway, I a knitting DOOM mittens. new pattern coming soon! #knitting #strandedcolorwork
Let's talk techniques! First up, the I-cord bind off… but lets make it more efficient. So this bind off can feel a little clunky? All that sliding stitches back to the left needle, readjusting your grip… beautiful finish, but awkward process. I’ve been playing around with it and found a better way to knit my i-cord bind off — one that feels more fluid and natural in my hands. Fewer fussy movements. Less interruption to the rhythm. More of that lovely, steady flow we all crave when we’re close to the finish line. The result? The same polished, rounded edge we love — but with a smoother experience getting there. The secret ingredient, two DPNs that replace your working needle, that will allow you to stop sliding your stitches back to the left needle. Instead you slip the next stitch to a DPN and slide the whole thing back to the other side of said DPN. Use your second DPN as the working needle. Check out this reel. Tell me if you’re team i-cord bind off or if it’s been sitting in your “someday” techniques list. Share this reel with your friends so they can learn this improved technique as well.
I'm knitting a hat using the Travelling Loop technique until I have enough stitches to fill my needles. Have you tried this technique? Hat is my Cornwall hat.
Looking for a cast off to match the long tail cast on? It's also stretchy & my go to cast off for toe up socks.
German twisted cast on, also known as the old Norwegian cast on (and probably many other names) is my favourite stretchy cast on. The trick is in the thumb. It’s worth practising as it’s about 10-20% stretchier than a long tail cast on and gives your knitting that bit of extra natural elasticity.
JOGLESS PIN STRIPES, done right! 🦓 clean, continuous lines without breaking the flow✨ this is the method I use every time RULES ↓ 1. at every beginning of EVERY round(BOR), always twist your yarns → this lets your colours travel up cleanly; without any gap 2. when you join a new color, just twist yarns — don’t lift the leg here most tutorials suggest it, but it shortens that row by 1 stitch 3. on the second round, lift the right leg of the stitch below and knit them together (to the right) + move your marker by 1 stitch → this keeps the stripe continuous and shifts your BOR 4. knit until you reach the stitch marker, meaning you will knit that shifted, shorter-looking stitch again → this corrects the height watch closely & save for your next project 🤍 #joglesspinstripes #joglessstripes #knittingtechniques #knittingtutorial #knittingtips
Now this is a guide you’ll want to keep handy! 📩 I’m sharing five bind-off (cast-off) methods every knitter should know, from neat finishes to extra stretch; each one has a purpose. There are a lot of bind-off techniques out there. If you're looking for a professional looking, stretchy bind-off, have a look at the Italian bind-off (or Kitchener bind-off). Here's a step by step guide on how to do it on a 1x1 rib. Part 1: The Set-Up You'll need: tapestry needle, scissors Sum up: Step 1: you'll need 3-4 x length of the length of the part you want to bind off. Cut off your yarn and put it on a tapestry needle. Step 2: work only the first two stitches. They will stay on the knitting needle. Insert the tapestry needle purl wise into the first stitch (knit stitch). Pull yarn through, leave the stitch on the needle . Step 3: Work the second stitch (purl stitch). From behind, bring the needle in between the two stitches. Then insert the tapestry needle knit wise through the purl stitch. Pull the yarn through. Leave the stitch on the needle. Watch Part 2 to learn how to work the Italian bind-off and Part 3 for the finish (last two stitches) . Thanks for watching. Save it for later 🫶 #knittinginstructions #bindoff #italianbindoff #howtobindoff #knitting
🩶 Pro tip for working sleeves using magic loop! 🩶 When you make your magic loop turns, turn them in opposite directions. This will keep your sleeve from getting twisted. I tend to be a creature of habit and like to turn things the same way so it took me way too long to figure this out 😂 Save this post to keep your sleeves straight when working magic loop!
Warning: knitters use secret techniques to avoid total meltdowns! Introducing the preventative pick-up method aka Safe Frogging - a lifesaver when you've messed up. You insert a needle or lifeline into a correct row below the mistake, creating a safety net that prevents your work from unraveling too far. Mind. Blown. 🤯😍 #unravel #froggingsucks #knittingtechniques #howtoknit #lifeline
