🦶Plantar Fasciitis. Fascia. The Science Behind the Pain.
Heel pain that greets you with the first step in the morning is rarely just a foot problem. Most of the time, it is a fascia problem.
Plantar fasciitis is an irritation of the plantar fascia, a thick, collagen rich connective tissue that runs from the heel bone to the toes. Fascia is not passive wrapping. It is a living, sensory organ, richly innervated, hydrated, and responsive to load, movement, stress, and recovery.
From a scientific perspective, plantar fasciitis is less about inflammation and more about micro overload and reduced tissue adaptability. Repetitive stress, poor load distribution, limited ankle mobility, calf stiffness, hip dysfunction, prolonged sitting, and nervous system tension all change how force travels through the fascial web. When fascia loses elasticity and hydration, it stiffens, pain signals increase, and healing slows down.
Research shows that fascia responds best to intelligent loading, slow strength work, elastic recoil training, and variability of movement. Fascia also responds to circulation, hydration, breath, and nervous system regulation. This is why isolated stretching alone often brings temporary relief but not long term change.
Your feet are part of a global system. What happens at the jaw, spine, hips, and breath patterns influences the tension carried into the plantar fascia. Treating the foot without addressing the whole chain is like fixing one thread while ignoring the fabric.
Consistency, awareness, and progressive movement matter more than aggressive interventions.

The pelvis is able to improve stability while in motion by regularly lowering it's center of gravity in walking.
This is achieved by the figure 8 pattern it creates in space, allowing the pelvis to lower in certain moments of the gait cycle.
Pelvic movement also creates a wave like pattern, undulating as it travels forward.
Movement is non linear.
Movement is medicine

Don’t be spooked by the skeleton 💀the real magic of the body is fascia.
This fluid suit of armor connects you head to toe, fueling performance, health, and longevity.
Fascia thrives on movement.
Keep it moving, keep it healthy and unlock your body’s scary potential. 💀🎃
Forget the heavy lifting; let’s talk about fascial tension. 🧬
There is a literal line of strength connecting your index finger to your core and down to your feet. When you straighten that finger, you activate the Deep Arm Line, engaging a fascial chain that runs through your shoulder and merges with the Deep Front Line all the way to your toes.
You aren’t just „pointing“—you’re toning the entire architectural structure of your body. Dancers call it grace; martial artists call it power; science calls it fascial integrity.
Evolution really peaked when it gave us this remote control for our muscles.

Fascia is the foundation of all human movement by @mtperformancedk
Cr • @physioosteogram
Its function determines the degree to which you can move without encountering restriction.
This video should make you understand why proper fascial hydration is critical for mobility. If hydration is inaccessible to the tissues, they become dry and sticky, restricting movement. This is THE root cause of movement dysfunction.
Fascia holds the human body together and defies gravity by stabilizing itself through the equilibrium of mechanical stresses across the entire network.
In other words: No part of the system fundamentally works in isolation—each part requires cooperation with its neighboring structures to achieve the most efficient movement.
On top of that, the building block of this system is collagen, a semiconductive protein encapsulated by water. The water within the system naturally carries a net negative charge. Combine these elements, and you have a body-wide bioelectric highway capable of transmitting information at the speed of light.
Who designed that? Nature? God? Aliens? I don’t know. But what I do know is that what we once considered a dead, useless tissue in fact is the foundation of all functions of the human body.

Pain is an output from your brain. It is a protective signal, not always a map of injury.
As a neuroscience pain specialist, I look beyond the site of pain to find the source of the threat.
Your feet are the sensory anchor for your entire nervous system.
Chronic tension in your arches sends a constant "threat" signal up the myofascial chain, locking your hips and straining your lower back.
By stimulating these receptors, we signal safety to your brain, allowing the system to drop its guard and release the protective lock.
This simple release is one small tool in the much larger, specialized protocols I use to reprogram your neural pathways and restore your peak state. Most people treat symptoms in isolation.
I treat the architecture of the system.
Stop chasing the pain. Address the source.

ON COURT TREATMENT OF A PROFESSIONAL TENNIS PLAYER AT IPTL COMPETITION ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
[THROWBACK TO MY WORK AT INTERNATIONAL PREMIER TENNIS LEAGUE COMPETITION]
⠀
At the @IPTLWorld competition exist similar special rules like in @DavisCup competition regarding medical treatment on the tennis court.
⠀
There is only one „Official Physiotherapist” per team allowed to step on court to help the tennis player if requested.
⠀
If there is something happening during competition (injury, required taping, etc.) you have only 3 min. time to perform a medical treatment on the court to solve the problem - it is also called „Medical Time Out“!
⠀
In the case shown in the video the @IndianAcesIPTL legends player Fabrice Santoro suffered from left hamstring problems at @IPTLWorld season 1 in Dubai.
⠀
After a quick medical evaluation of the player I started the 3 min. medical treatment and performed the following treatment techniques:
⠀
➡️ Myofascial release techniques of the hamstring muscles
⠀
➡️ Myofascial release techniques of the gluteal region
⠀
➡️ Myofascial release techniques of the quadrates lumborum muscle
⠀
➡️ Manual mobilization of the pelvis, lumbar/thoracic spine and ribs
⠀
➡️ Compression bandage of the left thigh

We are not broken—we are evolving.”
In this clip from my conversation with Michelle Nayeli Bouvier, we explore movement as a living pattern.
Michelle shares how adaptation reveals deeper truths—and how fractal layers in the body mirror the intelligence of nature.

Is biotensegrity useless? Pretty much.
Biotensegrity has captured a lot of attention in recent years, particularly in physical therapy, rehabilitation, sports performance, and movement science.
It conceptualises the body as a living, breathing tension-compression network, where bones serve as compression struts, “floating” in a dynamic web of tension created by fascia, tendons, and muscles.
But its practical usefulness is almost non-existent.
Biotensegrity is overhyped because, for all its conceptual charm, it doesn’t deliver the kind of quantitative, testable predictions that can meaningfully guide our understanding or measurement of human movement.
One of the most significant challenges with biotensegrity is that it lives mostly in the realm of metaphor.
It paints a captivating picture of how forces may ripple through the body, but it stops short of offering the concrete equations, precise measurements, or predictive tools that would allow us to rigorously assess human motion.
In contrast, traditional biomechanics leans on a solid backbone of mathematical models.
Newtonian mechanics, inverse dynamics, joint torque analyses, and electromyography (EMG) are all tried-and-true tools that help researchers and clinicians predict movement patterns, identify where forces are applied, and estimate how interventions (like strength training or bracing) might influence outcomes.
While biotensegrity borrows language like “force balance” and “stiffness,” it doesn’t have the quantitative muscle to stand alongside these established methods.
Many biotensegrity advocates make sweeping claims about its power to explain injury risk, postural dysfunction, or movement inefficiency.
But empirical evidence from well-controlled studies is incredibly thin, and there’s very little to suggest that using a biotensegrity lens improves clinical outcomes better than conventional rehabilitation methods.
I discuss biotensegrity and other fascia-related myths in the latest episode of my podcast (currently only available on Spotify).
