It wasn’t about the working class, it was about the park class: dustbin men, pigeons, joggers – things we saw every day on the way to the studio. And it‘s about having fun and doing exactly what you want to do.

When Blur released “Song 2” on April 7, 1997, it was famously intended as a satire of the American grunge movement: a “lo-fi” parody that accidentally became a global stadium anthem. The track is a fascinating study in numerology: it was the second single from their self-titled fifth album, it peaks at number two on the UK Singles Chart, and it clocks in at exactly two minutes and two seconds, featuring two verses and two choruses. Despite its polished impact, the song was born from a “sweaty” hangover and recorded with a chaotic dual-drum setup where guitarist Graham Coxon and drummer Dave Rowntree played simultaneously. Even the iconic “Woo-hoo!” was originally just a “babbling” guide vocal that producer Stephen Street insisted on keeping. While it began as a placeholder title that the band never changed, its legacy has transcended the Britpop era, moving from a sub-three-minute experiment to a multi-platinum staple that remains their most enduring commercial export. #blur #grunge #britpop #rock #altrock

Damon Albarn is a highly influential British musician, best known as the creative force behind Gorillaz and the frontman of Blur. Born in 1968, he played a major role in shaping the Britpop movement of the 1990s with Blur, delivering iconic songs like “Song 2” and “Girls & Boys.” With Gorillaz, he took a completely different path—blending alternative rock, hip-hop, electronic, and world music into a virtual band concept that became globally successful. Beyond that, Albarn is known for constantly experimenting with sound, collaborating with artists across cultures, and even composing for operas and film scores. His music often carries a mix of melancholy, introspection, and subtle political commentary, making him one of the most versatile and respected artists of his generation. Damon Albarn is a visionary musician known for blending genres and emotions, from shaping Britpop with Blur to creating the innovative virtual world of Gorillaz, delivering music that feels both experimental and deeply human. Did you know that the "Milky" puppet in Blur's "Coffee & TV" became so popular that it had its own merchandise line? Directors Garth Jennings and Nick Goldsmith (Hammer & Tongs) created the character because guitarist Graham Coxon, who sings the track, was reluctant to appear in a traditional performance video. They built several animatronic puppets to handle the different stunts—walking, climbing, and getting crushed. The result was a character so expressive that audiences cared more about the dairy product than the human band members. Is this the saddest death scene in music video history? Join our Discord or Support me on Patreon! Other Information: • The song's lyrics describe Coxon's struggle to give up alcohol, replacing his addiction with "Coffee and TV." • Garth Jennings, one half of Hammer & Tongs, went on to direct major feature films like The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and the animated movie Sing. • The "Strawberry Milk" female carton at the end was designed to give Milky a happy afterlife, softening the blow of his on-screen death. #Blur #CoffeeAndTV #HammerAndTongs #Britpop #Puppetry 90sMusic

#revolut #antitrust #fintech #investimenti #multa #economia #finanza #banche #risparmio #blur #marza #financialhub
