Be advised. Silly geese walk among us. A functional nightvision device requires three components. - HOUSING 🏠 OPTICS 🔎 TUBES 🚇
INTEGRATED IR OR NOT? For current Gen 3 and Gen 3+ devices most areas -including buildings, provide enough ambient IR light to work. The real challenge are subterranean areas where really no residue IR light is left to amplify. Even the most sensible tube will struggle when there is nothing left to amplify. NVGs with integrated IR lights solve that issue by keeping the legacy IR light (Which was necessary for Gen 1 & Gen 2 NVGs in many cases) mounted to the device. This way you can add some extra ambient IR light whenever necessary. This is usually more like a “moonshine” mode for navigating, but also helps to mitigate the light “spilling” around corners. If you need more light, external mounted light are a valid option too, but can add more weight and bulk. If you decide to get a NVG with an integrated IR light, make sure that it has a momentary mode, which allows you to send challenges according to your flashcode. At the end of the day its an option and your common sense needs to decide if you want that feature or not.
