A section of ride-hailing operators has criticized Bolt following the release of its latest earnings report, terming the figures as misleading and overly optimistic.
In the report, the company stated that its highest-earning driver in Kenya makes up to KSh400,000 per month. It further indicated that at least 20 per cent of its top drivers earn an average of KSh184,000 monthly.
According to the same report, the average monthly income for Bolt drivers in Kenya stands at KSh63,000, while motorcycle (boda boda) riders earn an average of KSh56,000.
However, during a meeting with the company’s management, a group of operators has disputed the findings, accusing the firm of presenting an inaccurate picture of drivers’ earnings.
They have urged Bolt to provide more transparent and realistic data to the public and to avoid what they have described as overly ambitious public relations messaging.

Angry riders are pushing back against Bolt after claims that some drivers earn up to KSh400,000 per month. Many say the figures are exaggerated and do not reflect their daily reality on the road, despite long working hours.
Drivers argue that high costs like fuel, vehicle maintenance, and company commissions significantly reduce what they actually take home. They insist the report paints a misleading picture of earnings and creates false expectations for both drivers and the public.
They are now demanding transparency and accurate reporting, urging the company to break down real earnings after expenses. For many, the message is clear; tell the full story behind driver income.
