My book-press needed a friend, so i got him a tiny one 📔📇 I tried to order a smaller one of book-press from another brand on Amazon, and i had to return it since the wood work was too sharp and i felt too dangerous to use. These two are the same brand i got, smooth and nicely done. Love it! . #asmrrelax #asmr #bookmaking #bookbinding #bindery #handmade #copticstitch #binding #bookbinding #สมุดทำมือ #制作過程 #bookbindingsupplies #bookbindingstudio #booksewing #handbound #handboundjournal #journals #tools #booklover #booknerd #bookobsessed #cutebooks #kraft #bookart #minimal #bookpress #สมุด #friday #friends

Making a book press! Book presses online can be really expensive, however with a handy husband I was able to create 4 for about 50$. Here’s everything you need - 1. Two pieces of wood. You can get something already in the size you want. For this project I bought an $11 sheet of 3/4 inch 16 by 48 inch MDF that my husband cut into 8 by 12 inch pieces with his table saw. You can also have hardware stores like Home Deport cut it for you. 2. 4 bolts. I used 5.5 inch long 3/8 inch hex bolts. 3. 8 washers. I used 3/8 inch washers. (Not shown because I bought the wrong size when making the video 🫣) 4. 4 wing nuts. I used 3/8 inch wing nuts. Instructions - Once your pieces of wood are cut to the size you desire for your press mark where you want the hole for the bolts. For these presses I chose to place the holes an inch from the outer edge. Then using a drill bit that matches the size of your bolts, drill 4 holes in each piece of material. Then simply assemble your press. . . . . . . . . . . . . When sewing a new book, we press the air out of the folded pages. My book press does a good job flattening all the folds. It will sit pressed over the weekend to prepare them for sewing. #bookbinding #bookpress #flatteningpages #smashthebook #handmadebook #torontobookarts

I hadn’t used this cast iron book press for so long so I decided to make a concerted effort to use him more and I’m so glad I did. He takes up a lot of room on my desk and as gorgeous as he is, if I’m not using him then it seems a waste to just have him sat there. But a little reshuffle on my desk, and some experimenting with how best to layer paper and card to sandwich the block, and I feel our spark has been rekindled. He’s a keeper 🥰. Been filling the book press with small notebooks lately. Always keeping something in it, taking something out. It's such a pleasure to have a substantial press! For these notebooks I've been using it for pressing paper, pressing covers, pressing the booklets and covers together... Make your own for your studio using our plans. Enjoying the process of binding books. It started with fanfic and now it’s sketchbooks. Keen to make some more of different sizes #bookbinding #makingsketchbooks #bookpress #bindingbooks #handmadesketchbooks #nzartist
