Turning the outside of the large maple bowl from the other day.
Going very slow and light with my passes and keeping my gouge sharp. Once turned I liberally applied some penetrating epoxy. Hoping this one turns out.

Bowl coring can triple my output from a single blank… when I slow down and don’t break the bowl. 🫣😂
It’s actually possible to core even more bowls than I’ve shown here, depending on the size of the original blank.
For me, one of the biggest benefits of coring is being able to make the most of the timber we’re lucky enough to work with. Instead of turning the entire centre of a large bowl into shavings, we can remove it as another usable blank and turn it into a second, third or even fourth bowl.
I hope this gives both fellow turners and those who buy our work a little insight into the process and shows that, wherever possible, we really do try our best to minimise waste and be sustainable with this precious resource.

This one is Red Mallee burl with @alumiliteco Clear Slow resin and @blackdiamondpigments_com pigments Black Diamond and Diamond Silver Pearl.
After shaping, lots of sanding I apply numerous coats of @starbondadhesives CA for my high gloss finish.
Turned on my @jet.tools lathe!
