A Wetherspoons manager in Braintree has gone viral after footage emerged of him refusing to serve a group of Reform UK supporters. In the clip shared widely on X, a man asks the manager whether the pub is refusing service to Reform backers, to which the manager calmly replies, 'Yes, I am.' The video has racked up hundreds of thousands of views and sparked a national debate about whether pubs can pick and choose their politics. Wetherspoons HQ has since issued a statement insisting the chain welcomes supporters of all political parties, noting that Reform's own leaders are regulars in their Clacton and Skegness branches. The company added that they ask all political parties to use their pubs socially rather than as campaign stops, and pointed out that in this case the Reform supporters had parked their campaign bus in the pub's loading bay while filming outside. Only in Britain does a political flashpoint involve a blocked beer delivery and a £2.79 pint.

So I have now written to demand the site close. There are now 50% more people on the site that the upper limit we put in place when I was Home Secretary. The government has lost control of small-boat arrivals and have gone quiet about the closure plan.
