From the week that I was prepping for the NYC BBQ. I have not worn a beanie (and barely a hoodie) since 🤣. I wanted to practice with some NYC Block Party classics and I pulled up Daisy Lady. This practice session was probably why I was so ready to rock the Star Wars breakbeat at that show as well.
One thing I love about streaming is that it gives me a live audience to play for and try out ideas with while I’m prepping for upcoming events. I ran one yesterday prepping for Montreux Jazz Festivalin Switzerland (posting this vid from the plane en route), and the stream set TOTALLY gave me a clearer vision for some of the ideas I want to present and mixes that I want to do for my gig.

Released on 30 Something three years ago this month, ‘Smiley’ marked a return to the rave roots: breakbeats, sock puppets, and a Thatcher-era youth movement that wouldn’t stay quiet.
That’s Paul’s voice you hear in the track: an actual police interview from a 1988 acid house raid. The same energy that ran underground now runs through the speakers.
The video? Directed by longtime collaborator Luke Losey (@loseyluke), and packed with stop-motion, unicorns, riot gear, and nostalgia turned sideways. Somewhere between fact and fantasy, it’s a tribute to the era that made us.
Three years on, 30 Something still isn’t just a compilation. It’s a reinvention.
