As black history month comes to an end, I wanted to shed light on Ida B. Wells and all she has done.
This is of course a simplified version, but she is an incredible woman to do research on because she really fought for the black community. As I stood outside of her home and researched her, it made me emotional for how hard she had to fight. As a black woman I am able to do what I can today because of people like her. Definitely one of my favorites to have filmed, Thank you for watching 🤎🖤🤎 #chicago #chicagohistory #chicagoarchitecture #idabwells #bronzeville

Bronzeville & The Chicago Renaissance.
Step into history. Welcome to Bronzeville. 🤎
Known as the "Black Metropolis," this neighborhood was the epicenter of the Chicago Renaissance. We’re talking Gwendolyn Brooks, jazz legends, and the trailblazers who built a city within a city.
The history is deep, but the future is even brighter. Come for the monuments, stay for the art lofts and local eats. 🎨🎷

A South Side restaurant got a surprise visit from a rap legend over the weekend.
Jay-Z stopped by Bronzeville Soul on Sunday as his wife Beyoncé prepared for her second concert at Soldier Field.
The restaurant owner says his business has been booming ever since!
@blackpeopleeats featured this restaurant last week ❤️🙌🏾 I’m thinking that’s how Hov found out about this gem 😉

repost from @vintageaaeverything Before Chicago became Chicago… it was Mississippi too. 🧳✨
They called them the Chicago Mississippians — Black families who left the South with nothing but faith, determination, and a one-way ticket north.
Between 1910 and 1950, hundreds of thousands of Black Mississippians made that journey during the Great Migration. They rode the Illinois Central Railroad straight into opportunity… and uncertainty.
They landed on the South Side.
Packed into what was called the “Black Belt.”
Limited by segregation… but never limited in vision.
Out of that struggle came something powerful 👇🏾
🎶 The sound of Chicago Blues — shaped by legends like Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf
🏢 Black-owned businesses, hospitals, and institutions that built community
🍗 Southern food traditions that still define Chicago flavor today
📚 Stories like Richard Wright who captured the truth — a city of both struggle and hope
And right in the heart of it all… Bronzeville.
Known as the “Black Metropolis.” A cultural capital built by people who refused to be erased.
This wasn’t just a migration… it was a TRANSFORMATION.
Generations later, that Mississippi-to-Chicago connection is still alive — in the music, the food, the stories, and the families who never forgot where they came from.
Drop a 🖤 if your family has roots in the Great Migration… or if this story hits home.
