This bookmark began as a quiet pencil sketch, working out spacing, rhythm and where the eye should travel. Once the thinking is done, the brush pen becomes the easy part. Add the coloured background first (vertical pinks and horizontal yellows), then used a lightpad to trace the lettering in dark blue so the strokes stay confident rather than hesitant. Finally… the very satisfying cut-out ✂️ If your lettering ever feels cramped or wobbly, it’s usually not your pen control but rather, your layout. Design first. Ink second.
