“I don’t want to see another photo of a bird on a stick,” they said… But have you seen this stick? And these balancing skills? I filmed this burrowing owl 20 minutes from my house this week and have no regrets. 📷 @nikonusa #z9 and Nikkor z 800 Filmed in 8k 60 for cropped and a dash of slo mo #nikonambassador #nikonpro #burrowingowl #birds
Tiny owl. Big conservation journey. 🦉 This young burrowing owl is one of the burrowing owls taking part in our head-starting program this year. Head-starting provides young owls with a protected environment to grow and develop before their release into the wild. For now, we're enjoying this glimpse into the early stages of their journey. 💚 #WeekendWildlife #BurrowingOwl #SpeciesRecovery #ConservationInAction
Just being cute all day long. 😇🦉 Burrowing owls, unlike most other owls, usually live in burrows underground often taken over from prairie dogs, ground squirrels, and desert tortoises. With long legs they hunt mostly insects and rodents. Happy International Owl Awareness Day! 🦉 Burrowing owls are known to tilt their heads and bob them up and down while observing their surroundings. This behavior is not just adorable but also serves a purpose - to help them better triangulate the location of their prey and to determine if a predator is approaching. #burrowingowl #owl #owlawarenessday #pointdefiancezoo #wow #owls
A sleepy Burrowing Owl 😴 Also called the shoco, this small, long-legged owl lives in North and South America. This little one has two legs but has one tucked up under its feathers for warmth. 🎥 @tammy_ascher . . . #burrowingowl #owl #birds #birdlife #nature
Burrowing owls are ground-dwelling and can be seen mainly in southern Idaho, mostly in the southwest. 🦉 In Idaho, they do not dig their own burrow, but use burrows dug by mammals like marmots and badgers or spaces in rock piles. They are very vocal and have a variety of chattering calls. Their song is a mellow “cooo-cooo,” and if a predator approaches the burrow, the young owls may make a rattlesnake-like buzzing sound. They also mate for life and breed in loose colonies of up to a dozen pairs. #BurrowingOwl #IdahoWildlife #Idaho #Owl#

Whoooo’s that? 🦉✨ Unlike other owls, burrowing owls nest in underground burrows, which are often repurposed burrows excavated by other wildlife, such as ground squirrels, prairie dogs, armadillos, kangaroo rats, snakes, and tortoises. 🤎 These owls are also diurnal, meaning they are most active during the daytime rather than at night. You’ll often spot them perched at the entrance of their burrows throughout the day. #TheLivingDesert #BurrowingOwl #WhatASuperbOwl
