Things I would tell you as an outfitter if I wasn’t afraid of hurting your feelings: • Cotton is not your friend out here • The bugs can be worse than you think. • Your group dynamic matters more than your route • That “easy portage” is still going to humble you • Weather will change your plans. Every time • Silence is part of the experience… not something to fill • You will forget something and you’ll survive anyway • The best trips are the ones where you let go of control a little Did we miss any?! 😂 Do you agree or disagree? #grandmarais #boundarywaters #bwca #exploremn #canoe
If you needed a reminder of this, here it is. A sound that instantly brings peace, calm and ease. Remember this sound when you need it and share with your friends who could use a little bit of this today. #grandmarais #boundarywaters #bwca #gunflinttrail #exploremn
Today’s Senate decision to lift the 20-year federal ban on mining near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) is devastating. I can guarantee that not one of the 50 Yes votes have ever spent any time in the BWCA and realize what a rare and sacred place it is. Those of us who have dreaded this decision will not give up the fight. The BWCA must be protected. - Quote often attributed to the Cree Indian, or other Indigenous Peoples. #bwca #resoluton140 #bwcawilderness #protectthebwca
The Boundary Waters in Minnesota is not just a place. It’s proof that some things are worth protecting forever. My family goes every single year. We canoe in. We carry everything on our backs. We fall asleep under more stars than you knew existed and wake up to loons calling across the water before the sun is even fully up. There is nowhere else like it in the world. And right now, as I am posting this, it is under threat. A vote on HJ RES 140 is happening TODAY at 10am CT. If it passes, it overturns the federal mining ban protecting the Boundary Waters and opens the door to toxic copper mining along the waterways that flow directly into it. I need you to stop scrolling right now and make one phone call. Five minutes. That is all this takes. 👉 Call your senators and tell them to vote NO on HJ RES 140. 👉 Use @5calls to find your reps, search BWCA, and use their sample script. 👉 If you get voicemail, leave your full street address so your call is counted. This is one of those moments where one phone call from enough people actually changes the outcome. Please share this. Please call. Please do not let today be the day we decided the Boundary Waters wasn’t worth five minutes of our time. If you love our public lands, National Parks, National Forests, fishing, boating, hunting, camping, hiking or anything about nature and our environment, this should devastate you. If you are a Minnesotan and want to live near clean water, this should outrage you. If you are a parent with dreams of your children getting to experience lands like the #bwca #boundarywaters this should outrage you. Our protected lands have been sold out to a foreign mining company, who will then sell what they harvest to China. This isn’t America first. Keep speaking up for our beautiful land- our Boundary Waters, Voyageurs National Park, Lake Superior National Forest, Lake Superior and our North Shore.
It’s happening! The ice is breaking up at the end of the Gunflint Trail. #gunflinttrail #boundarywaters #bwca #minnesota #bwcaw
Ice out on Sawbill! It was out by the evening of May 5th, with one small ice flow blocking the landing. This morning, May 6, even that ice flow is gone! It's forecasted to get down to 24 tonight so skim ice is still a possibility and that water is COLD. #sawbilliceout2026 #bwca #boundarywaters #sawbill #welcometowilderness

In the Boundary Waters we catch fish, clean them, cook them over wood we gathered. Eat them the same night. And something about that feels more real than most of my actual life. Arne Naess spent 12 years alone in a mountain hut in Norway writing about why modern humans feel so hollow. His answer was simple. We convinced ourselves we were separate from nature. That it was something to visit, not something we are. I think he was right. I think most of us know he was right. The question is what you do with that. #bwca

The Boundary Waters Canoe Area is a magical place. There’s nothing else like it on earth — you can paddle and portage for miles without seeing another soul, watch giant loons bob alongside your canoe, and drink straight from the lake. Today the Senate votes on its future. Whatever happens, the fight to protect this place doesn’t end with one vote. It never does. Protect the Boundary Waters. 🌲🛶 #ProtectBoundaryWaters #SaveTheBoundaryWaters #BWCA #HJRes140 #ProtectPublicLands
