Since joining the Production Design Department in 6th grade, Liya has been a dedicated leader, creative thinker, and advocate for her fellow students. In her senior spotlight, Liya reflects on her experiences in student leadership, shares some of her favorite OSA memories, and offers words of wisdom for current and future students. 🏀 Баскетбол в одной из сильнейших школ США - Hoosac School (штат Нью-Йорк) Мы находимся в головном офисе агентства Pro Futuro Sports в Сербии и сегодня с нами - Раде Джамбич, директор баскетбольной программы Hoosac School из Нью-Йорка, который расскажет об International Sports Academy (@isa.hoosac) на базе школы Hoosac. 🎙 Раде Джамбич: «Хочу представиться - меня зовут Раде Джамбич, я руководитель баскетбольных программ в ISA Hoosac School. Наша школа - одна из ведущих академических школ на севере штата Нью-Йорк, и одновременно мы выступаем на самом высоком уровне школьного баскетбола в лиге NEPSAC. Мы регулярно отправляем наших выпускников в ведущие университеты США - Cal Berkeley, Dartmouth, Yale, Harvard, Stanford. Это не только сильная академическая, но и выдающаяся баскетбольная школа. Можно сказать, что мы - одна из немногих школ в США, где учится наибольшее количество международных игроков, выступающих впоследствии в NCAA Division I. Наша школа предлагает 10-месячный цикл баскетбольной подготовки, что уникально для американских школ. Также в нашей школе есть три полноценных спортивных зала, причём один из них находится прямо в общежитии. 🏠 Условия проживания - на высшем уровне: каждый студент живёт в отдельной комнате с кроватью размера queen-size, тогда как в большинстве школ используются двухъярусные кровати. Питание также организовано на уровне профессиональных спортивных программ - у нас даже проводятся тематические дни кухни: русский день, китайский, сербский, французский, голландский - когда студенты сами готовят блюда своей страны и знакомят других с культурой. 🏀 За сезон наши команды проводят около 50 игр. Кроме того, у нас есть собственная команда AAU, которая играет в одной из сильнейших лиг США весной (апрель–май). I guess they took my silence for ignorance. I understood as a young age you can’t learn while speaking and you have to turn off your thoughts to learn and absorb from others. Then dissect and dispose what’s not needed, which our brains do inherently. Cal Berkeley was my choice of school because of the educational value they provided. My skills in Track & Field paid the way. Graduated top of my class in the African American Studies Department under social sciences. I wanted to learn more about my roots and how to relate and understand others to better to set up my future in Athletics. Quantum Leaps Athletics was birth after 10 years of coaching. I have many plans and goals for my company and we stilling plowing the soil for its foundation. #Building blocks with Yeshua all the way towards a Quantum Leap! We're thrilled to present Kat Couch read from his poem "Small “e” earth." Follow him on Instagram @katch.all. Kat Couch (katcouchpoems.com) is the pen name of Vyvyan Brunst. Born in Reading, England, Kat grew up in Geneva, Switzerland, but spent more than half his life in the U.S., the last 25 in Colorado. He now lives off-grid on a wild horse mesa in the southern San Luis Valley with his wife, Jane, and cat Donovan. His undergraduate years were spent at Reed College, Portland, followed by graduate work at Cal Berkeley. Kat is the author of four books of poetry, the last of which, Original Skin, was produced by Lilibug Publishing. His writing has also appeared in ARC magazine in Canada, in Pooled Ink, a collection of winning submissions for the Northern Colorado Writers nationwide writing competitions, and in Dream Catcher (UK).

In the Bay Area, we’ve grown accustomed to hearing that giant university in the city of Berkeley go by a few different names. But, outside the Bay, the school’s multiple personalities may be causing more than a little confusion. In a national survey, when asked if they knew “Berkeley,” “UC Berkeley,” “Cal Berkeley” and “Cal” referred to the same university, 42% said they didn’t know and another 24% said they weren’t sure. Even within California, 36% didn’t know the names were connected. The difference is that “California” (in cursive script) or “Cal” tends to refer to sports teams (or is a term of endearment by alumni), where “Berkeley” is what’s known among academic and research settings. The problem with this, reads the task force’s report, is that the full scope of what UC Berkeley offers is then missed. “The breadth of the institution is lost on them,” says the report.
