About 200 yards
On the island we are lucky to have two ferry routes, one ferry leaves from Rothesay and docks at wemyss Bay, which takes about 35 to 40 minutes, the other ferry goes from the north end of the Island and docks at colintraive. This journey takes mere minutes!

@thelaurettes keeping the party going on the CalMac ferry from Dunoon to Gourock. They had just finished supporting Skerryvore and decided to turn the commute into an encore. Only in Scotland! 🏴⛴️

I love Ullapool, Scotland but there is nothing better than heading home to the Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, Scotland.
Have you visited the North West Highlands of Scotland? There are so many pretty little villages and harbours to explore.

Happy Anniversary @calmacferries - 175 Years of Serving Scotland
This year marks an extraordinary milestone for Caledonian MacBrayne as it celebrates 175 years of connecting communities, coastlines and islands across Scotland’s west coast.
Founded in 1851 by David Hutcheson, Alexander Hutcheson and David MacBrayne, the company began by linking Glasgow with Oban, Fort William and Inverness via the Crinan Canal and the Caledonian Canal. Through mergers, state ownership and modernisation, the fleet evolved, becoming Caledonian MacBrayne in 1973 and later CalMac Ferries Ltd, continuing a lifeline tradition that remains vital today.
For Waverley, 1973 was a pivotal year too. By then the World’s last seagoing paddle steamer, she operated as part of the Caledonian MacBrayne fleet on Clyde cruises and ferry duties. When Waverley’s withdrawal was announced later that year, her future was uncertain until CalMac gifted her to the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society for £1.
On 8 August 1974, in James Watt Dock, Greenock, Waverley was officially handed over. In that moment, the preservation story that allows her to sail today truly began.
From paddle steamers to modern ferries, the Clyde and Hebrides have always been shaped by ships and the people who sail them.
Here’s to 175 years of CalMac, and to the vessels that continue to keep Scotland connected.

Could the launch of the MV Glen Rosa be one of Scotland’s last traditional ship launches?
The sight of large ships gliding down slipways was once a common sight along the River Clyde, but in recent years the “dynamic” launch method, as it’s known, has fallen out of favour.
Ahead of the vessel’s launch at Ferguson’s shipyard in Port Glasgow, shipwright Andrew Cochrane talks about what it’s like to send thousands of tonnes of metal into the water.

A CalMac ferry being built at Ferguson shipyard on the Clyde has sailed under its own power for the first time, eight years after construction began.
MV Glen Sannox is making a short journey downriver as it begins sea trials ahead of delivery this summer.
The ship and its sister vessel Glen Rosa were due to be finished in 2018, but the project has been plagued by design and construction issues.
Ferguson Marine said the start of sea trials was a significant milestone.
