When looking for dispersed camping sites, we used @campendium 100% for this trip. They have more than just dispersed sites but that is what we were specifically looking for. It was also a first for us to kind of “fly by the seat of our pants” and decide last minute where we wanted to stay each night. Twin Lakes, CO might be my all time favorite because there were never views that topped this spot! While I cannot give you directions to our exact spot, I can tell you that we were near South Mt. Elbert Dispersed Camping. . this spot was free but had no services or access to a bathroom. . we did not have a 4x4 to reach this spot but we did have to take it slow getting here because the clearance on our truck isn’t great. . this spot is over 9,000 ft in elevation so it does get cold. it was in the 30s overnight! . we did have cell service at this location as well . this spot was private enough for us to use our collapsible toilet in private (with a view 🤣) #camping #offgridcamping #dispersedcamping #campcolorado #coloradovacation #colorado #twinlakescolorado #campendium

There are of course TONS of other apps you can use for finding campsites free or paid, but these 3 have been perfect for camping on public lands and free camping 🙌🏽 All three of these apps have both free and paid campsites so there’s a little something for everyone on these apps! ***PLEASE remember to leave these campsites BETTER THAN YOU FOUND THEM. We’ve found that when we HAVE to pay to camp, dry camping is the way to go. #1 it’s much cheaper and the dry camping spots are usually quieter. They tend to be a bit more spacious and the views are for the most part sooo good! Scared of dry camping? We were too! Now it’s one of our preferred ways of camping! Dry camping means that you are camping without any water, electric or sewer hookups and are completely self-sufficient. Not as user friendly as Campendium, but can provide more options than Campendium depending on search area. 💻 Social Media - We follow a ton of travel accounts and we’ve seen or found boondocking spots from photos and video posts. Boondocking setup: 💦 Fill up on water beforehand at your previous campground or a dump/water station. We hold 66 gallons of water. ⚡️ We power our rig through our @newpowausa solar panels and @dakota.lithium batteries 🔋 but before this we powered our rig with a Westinghouse generator (30 amp). 💩 Dump your tanks beforehand and understand your tank capacity limits. We can generally go two weeks without dumping our black. We get asked a lot on how and where we find campgrounds to stay. We have a couple of memberships and APs that we use. The first and most frequently used is our Thousand Trails membership. They have sonmany campgrounds across the US, and a majority of them are open year round. We have the Adventure membership, so we can stay up to 21 days at a park and go from park to park. Next is the Campendium ap. We use this if we are in an area that does not have a Thousand Trails park or if we need to fill a nights stay. Finally, we use Harvest Hosts. Especially, if we are doing long hauls and trying to make it to a destination in the coming day(s). We have really enjoyed staying that their offered farms. When we started using Harvest Hosts, we stayed at wineries because most of them offered food, and after a long day of travels, that was a great option.
