Flóki Single Malt Review 🥃 Flóki is Iceland’s first and only whisky distillery, officially known as Eimverk, located just south of the Arctic Circle. It is one of the most extreme places in the world to produce whisky, and that environment plays a huge role in shaping the spirit. Made from 100 percent Icelandic barley, this single malt reflects the country’s harsh climate. The grain is specially adapted to grow there, and the distillery even uses traditional Icelandic methods, including sheep dung as a fuel source for drying the malt, adding a distinctive smoky character. First released in 2017, this expression is bottled at 47 percent ABV with a natural copper colour. It has already picked up Gold and Silver medals at major international spirits competitions. 👃 Light and grassy with notes of caramel, honey and a hint of sandalwood. 👄 Oaky wood spice, almonds and walnuts with burnt orange brightness. 🥃 Sharp and warming, slightly bitter at the back of the tongue with a long, lingering fade. 💭 My thoughts: This is a dram that genuinely reflects its origin. Clean, slightly herbal and subtly smoky, it feels different to traditional Scotch. It’s ultimately not to my taste, but I can appreciate it all the same.
