When a caseworker comes to visit, they often are checking to make sure the home is still in compliance with county standards, and they are checking on the well-being of the child. It’s great to prepare ahead of time with the child and see if there is anything they want to share. When the worker arrives, consider sharing strengths and building up the child. It’s also important to talk as a group and WITH the child, rather than just talking ABOUT them like they aren’t even there. 💛 and yes, even little kids can pick up on things we are talking about… don’t assume it’s all going over their head. As a new foster parent, I remember feeling nervous, wasn’t really sure what to share, and probably was overly talkative. It’s good to leave pauses and spaces and engage the child in the conversation. Also, at the beginning, it’s important to remember the child is in crisis. While getting referrals for therapy and support is important to do early on, it’s also important to consider that this is a child in transition. You likely will see some regressions or changes in behaviors over the first few weeks and months. You can consider discussing your concerns during team meetings or privately with the worker. How are worker visits in your home? How do they engage with you and the child? Let me know in the comments! ⬇️ #fostercare #fosterparent #fosterparenting #caseworker #socialworker
Here's why caseworkers are so crucial in the foster care journey: 📅 Case Updates: They keep you informed about court dates and the child’s case status. 🏥 Medical & School Info: Assisting with medical appointments and school needs. 💬 Behavioral Support: Offering advice for handling challenging behaviors and emotional issues. 📑 Paperwork: Guiding you through legal documents and administrative tasks. 🛠️ Resource Assistance: Connecting you with essential services and community resources. 🚨 Emergency Help: Providing support during urgent situations. Their role is vital in making sure everything runs smoothly for the child and the foster family. Their support truly makes a difference! 🙌 #caseworker #fostercarecaseworker #fosterparents #fosterparenting

My adopted children weren’t born into our family. But that doesn’t make them any less worthy to hold their positions in the family - daughter, son, oldest, family jokester, third parent (🙄😆), etc. Our birth kids aren’t more deserving of being called our children. Our adopted children have all the same rights and privileges that come from being a part of this family. One thing I especially love about how our family came together is that our birth kids were BORN into the family after our adopted children were already permanent members. Our birth kids don’t know a life without their adopted siblings, and that is SUCH a gift to them. They have the best big siblings ever. ❓❓ Did kids join your family first by foster care, adoption, or birth? Tell me in the comments! **I am not attempting to minimize the losses associated with adoption (whether from the perspective of adoptees, first families, or birth kids). This post is not therapy or clinical advice. If you have concerns about your child or family, reach out to a professional near you.**
