Castle Stalker is a dramatic cliff-top ruin perched on the shores of Loch Laich in Argyll, western Scotland. Built around the 14th century by the MacDougall clan and later taken over by the Stewarts of Appin, the castle played a strategic role in controlling sea routes through the region. Its name comes from the Gaelic “Stalcaire,” meaning “hunter” or “falconer,” reflecting its commanding position over the surrounding landscape. The castle consists of a compact tower house with thick stone walls, narrow windows, and a small courtyard, perfectly designed for defense rather than comfort. Abandoned in the 19th century, Castle Stalker fell into ruin until a remarkable restoration in the mid-20th century brought it back to life as a private residence. Today, it remains one of Scotland’s most picturesque castles, famously appearing in films and television, and is especially admired for its striking reflection in the calm waters below. . . . 🎥 by eddie.kelly87//TT . . . . . . . . . . . #castle #castlestalker #history #castlelovers #travel
📌 Castle Sinclair Girnigoe Who else loves a coastal Scottish castle 🙋🏻‍♂️ So cool wandering around this one and admiring the construction techniques to see how it was built. Would have been so impressive in it's full form hundreds of years ago. #scottishcastle #castlesinclairgirnigoe #visitScotland #hiddenscotland #hiddenscotland
Can you name this huge castle in Scotland? Not one that’s seen very often but incredibly impressive all the same. A wee clue..🕵️‍♂️ the body of water in the background isn’t the sea, or at least not the shoreline… #scotland #castlesofscotland #scotlandiscalling #visitscotland

Perles of Wisdom ...
Today’s team member recommendation is not exactly in Oban, but just a short drive away. Castle Stalker, which sits on a tiny island in Loch Laich, has been around since the 1400s and was once home to the Stewarts clan. It’s worth a stop for the amazing views of the castle with the iconic Argyll and Bute backdrop. The best viewpoint is from the little beach near The Old Inn in Appin. It’s about a 30-minute drive from Oban, mostly along scenic single-track roads, and makes a great little detour if you’re exploring the west coast. #scotlandisnow #castlesofscotland
A pretty incredible sunrise at Kilchurn Castle. #kilchurncastle #scottishhighlands #scotland #visitscotland #travel
Hard to believe Kilchurn Castle has been standing here for around 570 years. Sat at the head of Loch Awe with mountains all around it, it’s one of those places that just stops you in your tracks. There’s something so wild and timeless about it, especially when the light hits just right and the water is calm. Scotland is full of places like this, where history, landscape and atmosphere all come together in a way that doesn’t feel real. Ancient castle ruins, dramatic Highland scenery, peaceful loch views and a proper sense of Scottish history all in one spot. A special place and easily one of the most stunning castle locations in Scotland 🏰 #Scotland

Is Scotland real? Yes. Is it all wonderful, magical places like this? No. BUT...there's definitely a good few of them dotted around. This is Seacliff House, destroyed by fire in 1907, taking it's owner Andrew Laidlay with it. The land in this area has been owned by a few families including the Scougalls and the Colts who constructed the current ruin in 1750. It went through a baronial transformation in 1841.
