Restoring an original Sony PlayStation SCPH-1001 🎮💿 I actually bought this particular PlayStation to use as a CD player. The early SCPH-1001 has developed a cult following among audiophiles thanks to its unique audio hardware, AKM DAC, and dedicated RCA outputs. Unfortunately, these early models are also known for unreliable CD laser assemblies, and mine arrived unable to play CDs without constantly skipping. After trying a replacement laser from Amazon that was also defective, I found a KSM-440BAM from @stone_age_gamer. This laser comes from the later PSone and is considerably more reliable, but can still be installed in the SCPH-1001 by swapping over the original plastic housing. A surprisingly simple repair, and now this nearly 30-year-old PlayStation is back to playing CDs again. 🎶 #PlayStation #PS1 #RetroGaming #RetroRepair #VintageAudio
