Our journey began with a 4-hour drive from the old coastal town of Hermanus, through vast green valleys and up into the mystical Cederberg mountains. Dramatic sandstone formations, jagged rocks and endless wilderness stretched as far as the eye could see.
With no trace of man in sight, we travelled through thorny ground and wild rooibos until the green oasis of @bushmanskloof appeared in the distance, where we were warmly welcomed by the wonderful team.
Once a thatched farmhouse, today Bushmans Kloof is a luxurious Wilderness Reserve and Wellness Retreat. With 16 bedrooms across traditional Cape Dutch cottages and lodges, it feels like a beautifully styled little dorp built around a waterhole, in the middle of nowhere.
Travel has always inspired our collections, and this January was no exception. My mother, my daughter and I all wore samples designed for exactly this kind of place. The Practically Perfect canvas jacket for cold morning drives, cargo pants for walking through thorns, crisp cotton by day and silk under the stars by night.
Few places can host four generations with such ease. In Moses’ cot was a note from the staff: “You are too young to remember this trip, but we hope one day you will return.”
