We currently have 35 hens (18 are still young, not laying yet) and our run is 385sqft, plus 2 coops where they roost at night. The chicken run has evolved as we gain experience. With the setup of our property I don’t feel it would be safe to free-range them, so we have put a lot of effort into creating a safe and enriching environment. They are the highest-maintenance part of our farm, requiring a lot of upkeep and troubleshooting. But they’re cute and funny and we love their eggs, so it’s worth the work!

Directed by Peter Lord and Nick Park, Aardman’s stop-motion Chicken Run is celebrated as family entertainment; rewatching it as an adult, however, reveals one of the most intense depictions of totalitarian oppression ever seen in children’s cinema. While the filmmakers explicitly structured the narrative as a parody of WWII escape thrillers like The Great Escape, the visual symbolism borrows heavily from the darkest chapters of 20th-century history. Tweedy’s Farm is deliberately designed like a prison camp: numbered wooden barracks, continuous roll calls, razor-sharp barbed wire, searchlights and lethal guard dogs enforcing order. The constant fear of the oven and the desperate struggle for liberation elevate a group of farm animals into a metaphor for human resistance. Have you ever seen this film?? LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS ⬇️ #film #animation #adultanimation #aardmananimations #chickenrun
