new way to mask classism in today’s time
I’m so confused how anyone can look at this and think, ā€œI’d rather have all grass.ā€ Did you know that the idea of the perfectly manicured lawn is steeped in classism and was a display of wealth? Grassy lawns were a way to prove you were not a peasant hundreds of years ago. You could pay a staff of servants to meticulously clip your expanse of lawn, and you didn’t need to use the space for crops or pasture. I’m not saying we should do away with grass entirely - walking in grass is pleasant, and we have many areas of grass on the farm. But there seems to still be an obsession with grass lawns, and mowing, as status symbols. There are many zoning codes in towns that don’t allow for deviation from grass for homeowners who want to diversify. When there are alternatives like clover that give back to the soil and pollinators in more meaningful ways than just grass, and can be more drought tolerant, it just doesn’t make sense. We have loved adding our wildflower meadow to the farm, and enjoy seeing visitors walking along its pathways, observing the pollinators and community of diverse plants. We are proud to be a venue space that cares about sustainability and making our land a little better where we can. Do you love mowing your lawn? Would you mix it up on your land with areas of wildflower, native plants or clover?
When it comes to your mental health, small steps every day can go a long way. Watch this video for some low-cost, quick, and simple ways to maintain your daily mental health. It’s important to note that while these ideas are affordable and accessible to many, not all mental health care is. Social class and socioeconomic status play a huge role in mental wellbeing, from the impact of financial stress to the negative perceptions that can accompany classism. It’s not about classism It is a genuine, general feeling #youth #youngpeople
It is that deep. For those still silent, shame on you. This is not the time to stand on the fence. This is the time to choose a side. Neutrality is not an option when your morals align with hatred, racism, and classism, and you stay silent on human rights. #reels
