A little sneak peek into my breastfeeding journey with baby girl Sarina. 💕 Just like with Kai, we are doing combo feeding again but this time I feel so much more confident in this journey together. I nurse her in the mornings, bottle feed throughout the day and give @bobbie formula at night. Combo feeding has made this breastfeeding experience so much better because I am no longer stressing about every little ounce I produce and can spend more quality time with both Sarina and Kai. Before BOILING, WASH YOUR HANDS 🧼 I’m often asked…do I ACTUALLY have to boil water for baby formula? The truth is that YES, you should be *just in case* Powdered formula has the potential to grow a bacteria called cronobacter. While it is unlikely, it is possible. Cronobacter COULD harm your baby. Here’s the good news: There is a way to kill the bacteria First 🚨 wash your hands before preparing formula 🚨 The whole 2022 shortage was due to infections from household items. So if your baby is under 2 months, is immune compromised or was born prematurely (or anything causing your baby to have a weakened immune system), wash your hands and follow the steps: 💧Get water from a clean water source and bring it to a boil 💧Remove the water from heat, let it sit for around 5 minutes 💧Mix the desired amount of water with the powdered formula. The water must be AT LEAST 158 F/70 C to be hot enough to kill the bacteria. 💧Let the formula cool by putting the bottle in an ice bath, putting it in the fridge or letting it sit. 💧Test on your wrist before serving. It will be too hot to give to your baby right after mixing! Here are some FAQ: ❓do I really HAVE to do it? ➡️ It’s truly up to you. Is it likely your baby might become infected? No. Is there still a chance if they hit the criteria? Potentially. ❓I use the baby Brezza. It does this for me, right? ➡️ NO! The BB does not hit the temperature of 158 F to kill the bacteria. ❓This is such a bad process. How can I make it easier? ➡️ Use a formula pitcher and do it once per day vs. before each feed. Put the prepared formula in the fridge for 24 hours OR use ready to feed formula. Baby Led Weaning with my 6 month old Can I just say that starting solids with the 3rd baby has been so. much. fun. Letting go of the pressure and allowing baby boy to take the lead has made the process so much more enjoyable. It’s such a fun challenge this time around to figure out how to modify what my big kids are eating to work with baby boy’s food. If he’s ready for food at meal times we do solids then, but I don’t stress about getting him solids a certain number of times per day. Breastmilk/formula is still his primary source of calories but he’s quickly showing more interest in food and I’m here for it! #momcontentcreator #babyledweaning #startingsolids #breastfeeding #combofeeding

One of my biggest fears when we started combo-feeding was this! Will she bond less with me? Will formula somehow replace the closeness breastfeeding gives? I don’t know why we’re made to believe that only one type of feeding creates a deeper connection. Because the truth is, looking back, I bonded with Dhwani in ways that had nothing to do with how she was fed. In the sleepy cuddles after a 2am feed. In the way she held my finger with her tiny hand. In the moments she looked at me like I was her whole world. In the giggles, bath times, contact naps, silly songs and diaper disasters. Bonding wasn’t tied to breastfeeding. Bonding came from being her safe space. So if you’re switching between methods, or feeling guilty about introducing formula, or worried that the “bond won’t be the same”… Please know - your baby doesn’t measure their love for you by ounces or feeding techniques. They just know you. They know your touch, your voice, your smell, your presence. That’s the bond. That’s the real connection.
