Part 3️⃣ There’s more to road construction than what meets the eye. 🛣️👷🏾‍♂️ The SPARK Programme is not simply laying asphalt and moving on. The Wales Pond to Ramble Pond Road is being upgraded using proper engineering processes and equipment to ensure the finished road meets the required standards. One of the machines being used is a ‘Pneumatic Rubber Wheel Roller’, which uses rubber tyres to apply uniform pressure across the road surface, helping to compact and seal the asphalt properly. This is an important part of achieving a strong, durable road surface that can better withstand traffic, weather and everyday use. And yes, some of this footage was captured while it was raining. 🌧️ That actually gives us an opportunity to show why the drainage infrastructure matters. The road has been designed with curbs and channels to direct water away from the roadway, into the culvert and onward to the designated outlet, reducing the likelihood of water gathering on the road surface. So before judging the quality of the work from a single clip or a rainy-day video, it’s important to understand what is happening beneath and around the surface. Good road construction is about much more than what meets the eye — it’s about proper compaction, drainage, engineering and standards that help the road perform long after the work is completed. 🇯🇲🛣️ #Sparkprogram #CommunityDevelopment #WalesPond #RoadImprovement #Infrastructure

“There is no sustainable development without disability inclusion designed from the start…” This was the message I had the privilege of sharing during the high-level panel discussion at the just concluded Kano State Rural and Sustainable Community Development Summit (RUSCODS-2026) The summit convened development practitioners like myself, MDAs, private sector leaders, international organisations to discuss the Sustainable Development Strategies for Kano State through the years 2026-20230. As a disability EdTech leader and founder of @lthinitiative , I was elated to participate in such a crucial state level conversation and ensure that accessibility and disability inclusion was not relegated to the back as plans were being made. During the conversation, I shared lessons from our 10 year journey at Let’s Talk Humanity Initiative @lthinitiative working with communities and Persons With Disabilities, not just as beneficiaries of sustainable development but as co-creators of it. Looking forward to building practical partnerships with the government, development partners, academia and the private sector, to work together to ensure that NO ONE IS LEFT BEHIND! 📹: @galleriafilms #KanoStateGovernment #SustainableDevelopment #RuralDevelopment #CommunityDevelopment #SocialDevelopment

🌳 A farmer gave away 87 acres of land for just $10 so local children and families would have a place to play. In 1999, the Bland family transferred the land in Taylor, Texas, to a public trust with the understanding that it would be used as a public park. The condition was included in the deed, and the land was intended to serve the community for generations. Fast forward to 2025: the property was sold to Blueprint, a data center developer, for $10 million. Plans now call for a 135,000-square-foot data center on the site that was originally meant to become community parkland. City officials say the project could generate about $30 million in tax revenue over the next decade, including nearly $20 million for local schools. Residents, however, have raised concerns about honoring the original intent of the donation, as well as potential impacts on noise, property values, electricity demand, and the surrounding community. 🤔 When land is donated for public use, should future governments be allowed to change its purpose if economic opportunities arise? #DataCenters #PublicLand #CommunityDevelopment

What if we designed communities around people first and cars second? 🏡🌱 I had the opportunity to tour @live.indigo with developer Scott Snodgrass and @middlehousingdesignco Garland Harris Jr. and there were so many ideas worth paying attention to. Front porches instead of streets dominated by driveways. Walkability and shared spaces that encourage neighbors to actually know one another. Different housing types and price points living within the same community. And instead of a traditional resort-style pool, a working community farm that becomes part of everyday life. 🌱 As a developer, I’m always looking at communities through the lens of: What works? What can we do differently? And what ideas are worth bringing into the next generation of development? Indigo gave me plenty to think about. 🎥 We captured the full conversation and tour in Episode 1. Happy Friday, good people! Nobody told me how much patience ownership would require. The financing gets complicated, renovations get expensive, and timelines rarely move the way you planned. That's why your team, your reserves, and your reason for doing it matter just as much as the building itself. Ownership isn't easy. But for the right reason, it's worth it. #ProximityCollective #CommercialRealEstate #CommunityDevelopment #LegacyBuilding
