The best part of living in a coastal / tourist destination state is the off-season. I’ve said this for awhile now as an avid autumn, spring, and winter beachwalker. The beaches are less congested, more serene. And so are the seasonal shops that remain open. (No offense, travelers! We love you. We enjoy watching you appreciate our state, our favorite places, and supporting the local economy. There’s just a little nestle in our hearts that love the peace of slower, spacious living.) In October my parents and I adventured to Congdon’s After Dark for their 2022 Season’s closing weekend. Live music, outdoor seating, and food trucks. What more could we ask for? It was our first experience – we wanted to wait out the crowd and congestion of summertime - and it was ✨amazing.✨ We cannot wait to go again next year! We each tried different food from different food trucks to experience a little bit of everything. (I’m 100% a food sharer. “A little bit of everything” is one of the best ways to enjoy new foods. You get to taste a variety of options rather than just one and have an idea of what you might like in the future. It’s a win-win!) Things we loved: 🧡 Delicious food. (Seriously! Everything was incredible. Our favorite was dessert from Hoss & Mary’s. Pumpkin cheesecake on a pecan pie crust.) 🧡 Variety of Food Options. 🧡 Gluten-Free options: Most food trucks can (or do) accommodate GF options. 🧡 Lots of seating. We’re still social distancing in some ways and we were able to find a spot away from others to eat. (This would probably be harder during the summer, but there would always be the joys of tailgating, sitting on the grass, or taking the meal to the beach!) After we went to the beach on a whim. We didn’t realize it was the full moon (Hunter’s Moon) until the moon began to rise over the ocean, bright, beautiful, and bathed in soft pinks and purples. What a stunning show it gave us! In the immortal words of Anne of Green Gables & L.M. Montgomery: “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”

The strawberry frosting just hits so different and it’s SO GOOD. Look at how thick this bad boy is!!! Crisp on the outside with the light, doughy inside. CHEFS KISS. What’s next!? I’m looking forward to reaching my first donut but I think I still have a few fritters before I get there!
