Snippets from yesterday’s hike up Wetherlam… in the middle of a UK heatwave 🥵 I’d love to say ‘who thought that was a good idea’ but unfortunately it was me… it was my idea… sorry @erica_jj00 for dragging you into it too 🙈😂 Honestly thought we were going to have to turn around and give up for at least the first hour of the walk, but as soon as the actual summit was in sight we knew we were too close not to give it a go. Spent a good chunk of our time hunting for shade (there wasn’t much) and stopping to stuff our faces with sweets and electrolytes, but in all honesty I really enjoyed the scramble up, and despite the fact it felt like we were melting, the scenery was stunning in the sunshine 😍 • • • #wetherlam #hiking #heatwave #lakedistrictfells #coniston

The glassy, calm waters of Coniston Water are perfect for summer paddling ☀️ Our scenic circular route takes you past iconic Lake District landmarks, including the Old Man of Coniston and Peel Island, made famous by the children’s book, Swallows and Amazons 🏞️ Save our route ⬇️ 🛶 8.7km (5.4 miles) ⏰ 3 hours 🚗 Park & stay at Coniston Park Coppice 🚻 Toilets, cafe and boat hire at @conistonboatingcentre 📍We set off from @candmclub’s Coniston Park Coppice. Coniston Water is just a 10 minute walk from their @xpfreedomuk glamping cabin. 💡Paddle UK members can save £25 on Experience Freedom stays. 🛶 Walk through the Coniston Camping Hoathwaite site and launch near the dry wall. Alternatively, you can launch from Coniston Pier, around 1km north of our starting point. Once on the water, you’ll follow the shoreline south. Above its western shore, the mountain of the Old Man of Coniston towers above the lake and the village.  ⛵ Around 3km in, you’ll reach Peel Island. A small, wooded island that inspired Wild Cat Island in Arthur Ransome’s Swallows and Amazons. Today it’s cared for by the @nationaltrust. After looping around the island, you can paddle back to your starting point.
