I am many things to many people, but by far my proudest role is being mum to this beautiful little girl. If I could wish for anything in life, it would be her happiness and that she sees the beauty in the natural world the way that I do. I hope she ends up caring for it the same way it cares for us, and that she finds the solace and comfort in it that I have cherished since my own childhood out in the wild. It might be unconventional, but it’s our path and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
Just some summer essentials—if you're @audubon_ny's coastal staff, that is! 🏖️☀️ Meet some of Audubon New York’s fantastic coastal staff—they're working to protect and restore the places birds need to safely rest during migration and raise their young. Support conservation? Thank hunters, anglers, and shooting sports enthusiasts for making it possible. Since 1937, $28B has been hauled from excise taxes collected on firearms, ammunition, licenses, boating fuel, and related sources under the Pittman-Robertson and Dingell-Johnson Acts through the Wildlife Sport Fish Restoration Fund to be distributed to all 50 U.S. states according to land size and number of licenses sold. These monies support wildlife conservation, habitat restoration, hunters education, and public target shooting ranges. Attacking hunting and fishing through incremental bans erodes conservation funding. Spread the word. 🙏🏻 #conservation #wildlife #conservationist #huntingisconservation #fishing #letsgofishing #goodnews #themoreyouknow #habitatmanagement

Many of you know me for my work rewilding cats and protecting the Amazon. What I haven’t shared until now is that I live with chronic migraine and stage 4 endometriosis — conditions that shape every part of my life. For years, I had unexplained pain. Earlier this year, I finally learned why. Endometriosis is a disease where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of it — on ovaries, fallopian tubes, and even other organs. It affects 1 in 10 women (and many gender-diverse people), yet is often underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed for years. It can cause severe pain, infertility, and fatigue… and there’s no known cure. Chronic migraine is another invisible illness I’ve battled for nearly 15 years. The World Health Organization ranks migraine among the top 10 most disabling diseases globally — and chronic migraine (15+ migraine days per month) is especially brutal. Most days, I get just a few hours of clarity without pain. I’m always medicating, always managing. It affects my vision, my speech, my sleep, my memory, and every decision I make. I was even registered as disabled in college because of it — a label I never shared publicly, but one that shaped my education and the path I had to carve through it. Somehow, I still made it through college, then a master’s, and finally a PhD. Living in the jungle isn’t just about conservation — it’s also my refuge. The quiet, the green, the rhythm of nature… they calm my head and body in ways nothing else can. I’ll be sharing more of this part of my journey — the challenges, the science, and the hope — alongside the conservation work you already know. 💚 To those living with invisible illnesses: you’re not alone. #EndometriosisAwareness #MigraineWarrior #EndoWarrior #ChronicIllnessLife #MigraineAwareness #WomenInSTEM #Conservationist #AmazonRainforest

A mother polar bear nurses her cub as they both prepare for winter 🍼 #EuronewsGreen 📹 by @jdubcaptures Polar bear cubs will often need their mother’s milk for more than two years, which means the adult needs to keep their strength and stay well nourished. Unlike other large bear species, polar bears do not hibernate and will use the sea ice to hunt seals throughout the winter months. Sea ice loss due to climate change is considered one of the biggest threats to these majestic creatures, and even more so for this mama bear.
