Most people think they’re training core in a plank… 👀 But many are actually overloading their low back. Here’s the shift: 👉 Plank isn’t about holding your body up—it’s about bracing from within. That means turning on your TVA (deep core) and RA (rectus abdominis) to generate intra-abdominal pressure that supports your spine from all sides. 🔥 When done right: Your core feels solid and pressurized Your ribs stay down, pelvis stays neutral Your back? Protected and quiet 💥 Pro tip: Brace first before you lift into plank—like you’re about to take a punch. Then hold that pressure as you breathe. Turn your plank into what it’s meant to be: A core stability powerhouse. Not a low back grinder. #FixYoShit #MoveU #PlankChallenge #CoreActivation #TVATraining

Do you feel crunches in your neck instead of your abs? You’re not alone. One of my clients felt more neck than abs during crunches, so I changed two things: ✔️ Elbow counter pressure ✔️ Knee squeeze The goal wasn’t to make the exercise harder. The goal was to help her connect to her core so her neck could stop taking over. I’ve been training women since 2007, and one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that if you can’t feel the right muscles working, sometimes a small tweak makes all the difference. Try this on your next core workout and let me know where you feel it. #AbExercises #CoreWorkout #CoreActivation

Your six-pack isn’t the muscle that flattens your stomach. Your deep core is. 💡 This 10-minute foam roller routine targets your transverse abdominis the muscle that acts like a natural corset, pulling your waist in and holding your belly tight all day, not just during your workout. 6 exercises. 2 rounds. 45 seconds each. Save this and do it daily 🔥 #DeepCoreWorkout #FlatStomachChallenge #CoreActivation #pilates #pilatescore
Let’s talk about core training and back pain. 🧠💪 If you have back pain, you’ve probably heard that you need to “strengthen your core.” But here’s the thing doing endless core exercises isn’t automatically going to fix your back pain. First, you need to understand how to properly activate and brace your core. That mind-to-muscle connection can take some practice. Here are 3 simple ways to feel your core working: 1️⃣ Cough or laugh — place your fingers just inside your hip bones and feel the muscles switch on. 2️⃣ Imagine zipping up your core — from your pelvic floor towards your ribs. 3️⃣ Brace like you’re about to take a hit — create tension without holding your breath. And remember, core strength is only one piece of the puzzle. Back pain can involve mobility, movement patterns, strength, and nervous system sensitivity too. So don’t just train harder. Learn to move better. 🔥 👉 Save this for your next core session. Core engagement ≠ sucking your stomach in. A strong core is about deep abdominal engagement, breath control and spinal stability— not holding your breath or pulling your belly button aggressively toward your spine. Try this simple cue: ✨ Exhale gently ✨ Engage your lower abdominals ✨ Keep your ribs stacked over your pelvis ✨ Maintain natural breathing ✨ Think “brace”, not “suck in” This makes your core activation more effective for yoga, strength training, Pilates, posture and everyday movement. Save this reel and try it in your next workout! 💛 Want to learn how to build core strength, mobility, flexibility & better body awareness with personalised guidance? 📩 DM me to join my online yoga classes. #CoreEngagement #CoreActivation #CoreStrength #HowToEngageYourCore #DeepCore AbdominalEngagement CoreWorkout YogaForStrength YogaPractice YogaForBeginners PilatesCore FunctionalMovement PostureCorrection MindfulMovement YogaTeacher OnlineYogaClasses YogaOnline MobilityTraining StrengthAndMobility BeingYogin
Before you plank, crunch, or do another leg raise, read this. If you have a lower belly pooch that won’t budge no matter what you eat or how much you train, your pelvic floor might be the conversation nobody’s having with you And I say this as someone who lived it. For the longest time I kept dealing with recurring lower back pain. I tried everything from stretching, strengthening, different training styles. Nothing stuck. It wasn’t until I actually started working on my pelvic floor that we connected the dots. A weak, underactive pelvic floor was at the root of it all. My body had been compensating in every direction, and my lower back was paying the price. Here’s what’s actually going on 👇 Your pelvic floor is the base of your core. Think of it like the floor of a house. If the foundation is weak or not working properly, everything built on top of it is unstable. Your deep core muscle cannot properly switch on if your pelvic floor isn’t coordinating with it. So what do you do first? - Start with your breath. Lie on your back, knees bent. - Inhale deeply into your belly and let your pelvic floor release and drop. - On the exhale, feel a gentle lift from the inside. That’s your pelvic floor engaging. Most women were never taught this. They were told to just do planks. Save this if it resonated and drop a 🙋‍♀️ below if nobody has ever explained your belly pooch this way before. #pelvicfloor #corehealth #lowerbelly #coreactivation #womenswellness functionalfitness bellypooch deepcore lowbackpain coreworkout womensfitness bodyimage fitnesseducation reelsfitness
I feel it in my lower back, not my core…” Sound familiar? It’s one of the most common things I hear when clients are learning planks and it’s usually not their core that’s the issue 👀 Here are a few quick fixes that can change the game for your clients (and your programming): 1️⃣ Mind-Muscle Connection – Cue intentional core engagement: think zipping up from pubic bone to sternum, not just “hold it.” 2️⃣ Check Alignment – Head, ribs, pelvis, heels. One long line. Watch for collapsed hips or lifted bums. 3️⃣ Posterior Pelvic Tilt – A big one! Tuck that pelvis under slightly and draw the lower abs in we don’t want them dumping into lumbar extension. 4️⃣ Knees Down First – Strip it back if needed. Get the connection before the full hold. 5️⃣ Upper Body Tension Check – “Lift out of the shoulders” is one of my fave cues. Tension in the wrong spots can override proper core activation. if you want to level up your ability to modify across a wide range of conditions, the Injury Modification self-paced certification is the gold standard.
