The core does not work as isolated parts. Breathing, trunk stability, pelvic control, and hip movement are inseparable functions. If one component of the core fails, another core component compensates. Symptoms appear within the core region or at its immediate load-sharing partners, like the hips or lumbar spine. This is why a core dysfunction can present as low back pain, breathlessness, hamstring pain, or groin pain — even though imaging may be normal. The issue is not muscle weakness; it is poor coordination within the core system. For physiotherapists, understanding these core links is critical because it shifts practice from local treatment to core-driven clinical reasoning. You assess how the core manages pressure and load, identify which link has failed, and treat the system, not just the painful structure.
