Elgin Vine Cornice ✨ Full cast and finished piece ✨💖 Ahh well the summer was fun whilst it lasted. Something so nice about casting outside I really do miss it in the colder months. Suppose il be getting a new set of overalls soon and getting the old heater out… boringggg. Tanks full of ice. Tallow like bricks. Plaster cornice molding requires consistent profile along an entire wall. Hand-carving each section would produce variation no eye could miss. The solution is a template shaped to the desired cross-section, dragged along the wall while the plaster is still wet. The worker presses the profiled wooden template against the plaster surface. Fresh material fills the cut as the template moves, and the excess falls away. The profile repeats exactly along the wall length. Wire and nails embedded in the wall provide guide rails for the template to follow. No measuring, no sculpting by eye, no second pass. The template determines the shape. The guide determines the path. The plaster determines nothing, because it simply fills whatever space the template leaves behind. Cornices, crown moldings, and decorative bands all form through the same process. A single custom tool replaces hours of skilled labor. The profile is fixed, so the result is uniform. The wall is straight, so the molding is straight. The plaster is wet, so it accepts the shape. Once it sets, the molding is permanent. The template goes back on the shelf.
