They don’t call it the best beach in New Zealand for no reason ⬇️ This is Cathedral Cove, one of the most beautiful, but popular beaches in New Zealand. There are no shops or services at this beach! Just the beauty of nature after a 30 minute walk in 🩵 Did you recognise it? #cathedralcove #waikatonz #nztravel #coromandel
If you’re driving down the iconic 309 Road in Coromandel, you have to pull over here. The Waterworks is basically a giant, eco-friendly playground hidden in the native bush, packed with over 70 quirky water-powered inventions, a human-sized hamster wheel, and massive water cannons. It is pure, old-school Kiwi ingenuity at its finest and the ultimate way to unleash your inner child (or just wear the kids out completely!) @thewaterworks_coromandel Save this post for your North Island Itinerary and follow @threeboysbroad for more kid-approved travel destinations and activities. #coromandelnz #nzroadtrip #destinationnz #newzealandwithkids #travelwithkids

One of the most incredible spots in The Coromandel… 📍 Whenuakura Wildlife Sanctuary, Whangamatā. Aka: Donut Island. We’ve visited 3 times now and it never disappoints! 😍 Paddling through the sea cave into the turquoise lagoon is such a cool experience & really makes you feel grateful to live in this beautiful country. 🌿 A few things to know: • This is a protected Wildlife Sanctuary, so stay in the water and don’t land on the island • Take nothing but photos • Conditions can change quickly, especially around the cave • There are local operators who can take you out by kayak or paddleboard We’ve put together a full write-up with our self-guide tips, reviews and the companies that can take you here. 🌊 🇳🇿 Want to find more places like this? Our NZ Travel Guide has 1,000+ locations around Aotearoa, including hidden gems, waterfalls, walks, caves, hot pools and more. Comment “GUIDE” and we’ll send you the details! Adventure with respect. 🌿 Clip captured by the brother @philipp_inozemtsev
Did you know about this place? 🏔🌿 Known as the vanishing volcanos because they are shrinking remnants of ancient volcanos, the Alderman Islands now lie about 20km off Coromandel coast and so few people know about them! This place honestly looks like a different world with it's sharp jagged peaks above stunning blue water. Note: these islands are protected and you may not land without a permit. 📍 The Alderman Islands, New Zealand If you're keen to visit, we booked our boat tour with Coromandel Ocean Adventures to sail around the islands and snorkel. It runs about 3hrs and was totally worth it! We saw so much sea life, including fur seals and 2 whales and the snorkeling was amazing (albiet cold in October). Some places are worth taking the wild roads for!🌊 • Pokohino Beach is one of those hidden little corners of the Coromandel that takes a bit of effort to reach, but once you finally see the water through the trees, you’ll understand why🥹😍 A few things to know before you go👇🏼 🚗The last few kilometres are on a forestry/gravel road — narrow, bumpy and definitely one to take slowly. 🥾From the car park, it’s around a 20–30 min walk through the bush down to the beach. The track is steep in places so proper shoes are a good idea. 🌊The beach is small, secluded and usually much quieter than the more famous Coromandel beaches. 🪨There’s also a little sea cave at the far end of the beach — but check the tide and conditions before exploring it. 🚫There are no facilities at the beach, so bring everything you need and take all your rubbish back with you. ⚠️The access road is through a forestry area and can be rough or closed at short notice, so check conditions before you go. And honestly…after that road + walk, seeing this turquoise water at the end feels like a pretty good reward💙 📍Pokohino Beach, Coromandel Would you drive the wild road for this view?✨

After this, I might have to move to the Coromandel #jmango #newzealand
😎 Family friendly hut: Pinnacles Hut, Coromandel I can understand why this hut is so popular with families 1. It has gas and kettles to boil, so if you don’t have your cooking system sorted yet and are beginning your tramping journey it’s ideal 2. There’s even a gas bbq and yes people did bring bacon and sausages. Smelt amazing! 3. It’s about a 3 hour walk to the hut - so a great starting distance, but there’s a ton of uphill so don’t think it’s an easy flat walk, it will require some leg and lung power 4. There are games in the hut - enough said It’s a great beginners North Island family hut hike and my favourite part - climbing the metap@rungs and scrambling to the top of the Pinnacles Summit If you’re new to tramping with kids, you’ll find more about this New Zealand hike and what to pack on my website www.backyardtravelfamily.com (link in bio)
