Allergies have been insaaaane, so rather than go outside and die, I decided to stay inside and make Corpse Wax candles! . I have been wanting to make these for a long time and finally everything ended up coming together. Each candle is made with two ingredients, corpse wax and either beeswax or soy wax. I obtained the corpse wax throughout the bone cleaning process! I thought the candles were going to smell kinda bad due to the nature of Corpse wax, and was going to recommend only burning them outside, but they don't smell at all! . This is a very limited batch of candles. There are 12 8oz candles and 12 4oz candles. 12 are soy based and and 12 are beeswax based. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #corpsewax #odditiesandcuriosities #oddcandle #macabre #morbid #scavenger #vultureculture

Day 170: today sharing another Elden Ring inspired line art tattoo flash design 🏺 Without a doubt Alexander was best boi (after the Turtle Pope) so I decided to honour his glorious warrior jar memory with a flash shaped after his unique jar lid crafted (my guess) out of corpse wax. Like the oddly wholesome eldritch horror he is lol 😂👍 What are some of your favorite comfort characters? . . . . . #eldenring #fantasy #illustration #tattoo

Materials used listed below👇 did you know you could do this?! Please note that this does not clean the skull, it simply removes the corpse wax. This skill still needs to go though a degreasing and whitening process. Materials can be found at Harbor Freight: •sandblasting material: ARM & HAMMER 50 lb. ARMEX® Soda Medium Grade Media •sandblaster: any will work depending on the size of your studio, you will need an air compressor for your sandblaster to work. . . . . . #oddities #bonecleaning #skullcleaning #vulturecultute #bones

Carpse Wax... is actually pretty much just that! I tested a sample of corpse wax (adipocere) on an FTIR instrument that uses infrared light to see how substances absorb light at different wave lengths. And corpse wax is that waxy soapy stuff that sometimes forms on skulls during maceration. The test showed that it is very similar in composition to bees wax!

I have been fortunate to come into contact with so many different types of bone but sometimes they aren’t ready to create or burn on and need some extra care. One I’ve been coming into contact with and reading up on more recently has been adipocere or “corpse wax”. Corpse wax is basically when the saturated fatty tissue of a carcass breaks down with the help of anaerobic bacteria (among other environmental factors) to make this thick, soapy substance coating the bone. It doesn’t smell and it’s not even really “gross” or anything (to me at least) other than feeling slightly filmy or chalky but it definitely makes any type of pyrography impossible. It takes some time and attention to get rid of that thick waxy layer. With these jaws I had them soaking in warm soapy water for several days then scrubbed with a heavy duty brush and dish soap as a degreaser. I’m sure there may be better ways to handle it however I am slightly limited living in an apartment with no private outdoor area. Also huge shoutout to the folks that have been helpful with this process (@wolfteacreations and @feralhag 🖤) I am always open to helpful tips with processing of these bones.

Bath time! Cleaning the skulls we buried last year in Winnipeg so we can ship them out to Mtl. Big thanks to @unholy.carpenter, @ashelybroadbent and of course Polly the pupper for all your help💜 . "But whats that white stuff on the skulls?" . Its adipocere!! A white waxy or chalky substance that is sometimes seen on bones after being found in nature or after macerating. Adipocere, also called corpse wax or grave wax, is formed by fats breaking down in ideal conditions (wet and low oxygen). Similar to natural soaps in it composition with a little warm water it came right off! To avoid adipocere make sure to remove as much tissue and fat from bones before burying them. . #bonejewelryforsale #bonecleaning #taxidermyskulls #vultureculture #deadthingsinjars #itwasdeadwhenwemet #foxskull #occultartist #macabreartist #deadstuff #skullart #odditiescollection #bonecollector #bathtime #gothaesthetic #cottagecore #odditiescuriosities
