Sustainability isn’t just about what we buy, it’s about the systems we participate in and the kind of communities we want to live in.
I hosted a little craftivism night, where we made postcards to mail to our senator Susan Collins.
We wrote about a few different issues like oil and gas lobbyists pushing for legal immunity for fossil fuel companies, protecting voting access, and ICE activity here in Maine with concerns about due process, constitutional protections, and the need for real oversight - and definitely not more funding! Instead of doomscrolling, we got to express our creativity, enjoy each others company, and make our voice heard.
Civic engagement is one of the BEST sustainable habits we can cultivate.
My main NYE resolution was to host a monthly activity to encourage more sustainable habits with friends.
I hosted a repair café in January, and a postcard-making happy hour this month and working on a clothing swap this month.
It definitely won’t be my last time hosting either of these get toogethers. ❤️

What a wonderful day we had today @portindependent with our Craftivism Station!
It was fantastic to spend time talking with so many lovely people, hearing your stories, and collecting lots of positive messages and affirmations for the flag. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and took part — it was such a positive and uplifting day all round.
We’ll be back with the flag and our Craftivism Station on Friday 12th June - 10am–4pm, so if you missed us today, there’s still plenty of time to get involved.
Over the coming weeks, Michaela will be embroidering all of your messages onto the flag, which will then be carried at the Pride March and Rally in Sunderland on 27th June.
We’d love for you to come along, show your support, and see the finished flag as part of the march.
See you on Friday — and hopefully at Pride! 🌈✨

I’ve been working on this piece for two years. It is my formal renunciation of the Catholic Church. I wrote the letter according to guidelines that were previously set for formal renunciation (though the church has since changed canon law to prevent anyone from formally leaving). @jenn_sutherland witnessed the letter for me. I sent a copy to the archdiocese in which I was baptized. The last step was a public announcement. Naturally, I stitched a massive version of the letter (hand couched) onto a funeral pall. It is called Exodus. It was displayed on a coffin. I then scored some holy water blessed by the pope. This is me anointing the piece with the holy water. Sooooo technically the pope blessed it. ;) Two can play at this game. I’ll post pics once I have the good ones. For now, here is me enjoying the last step of the process before the doors opened to the art show on Saturday. #craftivism #embroidery #feminist #letsmovetheneedle #artactivism #author #recoveringcatholic
I just updated my Conversion Therapy Map Quilt again—something I hoped I wouldn’t have to do.
Each state on this quilt is represented in a rainbow gradient. Any state where conversion therapy is legal? I cover it in gray. Every time a ban is passed, I remove the gray. But this month, I had to add gray back over Kentucky.
In 2024, an executive order had protected LGBTQ+ youth in Kentucky. But in March 2025, the legislature reversed it—making conversion therapy legal again.
This isn’t just symbolic. Conversion therapy has been proven harmful, especially to queer and trans youth. It’s not real therapy. It’s a practice rooted in erasure and fear.
And now? The U.S. Supreme Court is preparing to hear a challenge to these bans. Which means this fight is about to go national—and we cannot be silent.
If you live in one of these gray states—or even if you don’t—please:
📣 Reach out to your lawmakers.
📣 Let them know this practice doesn’t belong in any version of compassionate care.
📣 Stand up for LGBTQ+ youth, because all kids deserve safety, support, and love.
If you’re ready to take action, start here:

This post brilliantly captures the ultimate artistic bait-and-switch, highlighting the hilarious tension between traditional domestic crafts and radical modern politics. The top panels show a beautiful, intricate cross-stitch hoop filled with delicate, soft pastel pink and purple embroidered roses, perfectly mimicking the kind of aesthetic your conservative relatives would praise as a wholesome, traditional hobby. The bottom panels deliver the incredible comedic payoff: the completed piece proudly displays the phrase "Defund the Police" nestled inside the elegant floral wreath. The attached Tumblr commentary adds the ultimate cherry on top, featuring tags from a user explaining that while their mother raised them to be a traditional domestic goddess, they ultimately grew up into a gay socialist who just happens to sew like an absolute champ. It’s a wonderful celebration of reclaiming traditional, domestic mediums for bold, unvarnished contemporary activism.
