What I wish I knew before I started believing that happiness wasn’t available to me. I believe that at times, we have all felt like we would never experience the true feelings of joy because the enemy (which at times was our own mind) told us it wasn’t for us. I would hear whispers telling me to lower the bar because what I had was good enough, and I should just be grateful. It sounded wise, logical, and mature, so I never saw it as fear trying to dress up as a realistic mindset. If this is what you’re hearing, let’s talk about reframing the dialogue. From: “Happiness is for other people.” To: “If I can imagine it, I’m already aligned with it.” Tune in and take notice when your mind tries to shrink a moment of joy with thoughts like: “Don’t get too excited,” or “It won’t last.” It’s perfectly ok to challenge it and counter the thought with a logical question, like, “What if it’s safe for this to feel good?” How did you decide that happiness was a setup for disappointment? Because it isn't selfish, silly, or just for “other people.” If your mind has become the main voice keeping you small, it’s time to recalibrate those internal conversations.
