In 1969, Niagara Falls, one of the world’s most powerful waterfalls came to a complete stop. The American Falls were dewatered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to study and prevent erosion. Over 27,000 tons of rock were used to build a temporary dam, diverting the Niagara River and exposing the waterfall’s bed for the first time in centuries. This unprecedented project allowed scientists to study the falls and remove decades of debris, including coins and shipwreck remnants. Beijing University of Chemical Technology's (BUCT) admission letter is made from a carbon fiber composite that is just 0.2 millimeters thick. The carbon fiber composite, also known as “black gold,” is actually used in high-performance fields such as aerospace and shipbuilding.
Other universities have also experimented with creative admission designs, including bamboo fiber letters and film-inspired formats. But, BUCT’s innovation has gone viral for cutting fruits and combining technology with symbolism in a striking way.
