Last week we celebrated the 75th Annual Jewish Book Awards! Congratulations to all of this year’s winners and thank you to everyone who joined us at Temple Emanu-El and those who watched online. The ceremony was an electric celebration of Jewish literature with rapid-fire Q+As with the leading voices in Jewish storytelling and even a special opening performance from our host, Jonah Platt. 🚨🚨SHOCKING UPDATE: regarding the book “SYNAGOGUE OF SATAN” Here’s the part that should disturb you most..after I stopped filming, I spoke to the owner. I asked about the book. His answer? “It’s my best seller.” Not removed..sold out.He listened, but took no responsibility. “I don’t write them, I just sell them.” As if selling hate somehow absolves you from it. When I explained the harm to Jewish people, he doubled down… showing me another book tied to pushing similar conspiracies.This is what it looks like when profit outweighs principle. When hate is packaged, stocked, and sold. And when dialogue is replaced with dismissal. SO understand this clearly NO ONE is coming to save us. We must speak up. For our 75th anniversary for Jewish Book Week, we asked our speakers to recommend one of their favourite Jewish books for you to read. The brilliant @samanthaelliswriter, who joined us across multiple festival events, recommended 'Tenants and Cobwebs' by Samir Naqqash. Naqqash was one of the only Iraqi Jewish writers to continue writing in Arabic and Judeo-Iraqi Arabic after moving to Israel. His book brings to life the lost culture of an ancient Iraqi Jewish minority living amidst a majority Muslim population in 1940s Baghdad. Trust Samantha and give it a read!

Getting to hear @allegragoodmanwriter talk about her new novel This Is Not About Us at @zibbysbookshop was such a treat. 📚 She described the story as a look at the many facets of a Jewish American family across generations. The way relationships, perspectives, and small moments ripple through a family over time sounds so compelling. Now I’m even more excited to read it.
