During a high-stakes congressional hearing in Washington, United States, Senator John Kennedy questioned Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg about personal privacy and corporate transparency. The senator posed a sharp hypothetical question regarding whether the executive would publicly disclose his own hotel and messaging history. This clever line of inquiry immediately forced the tech leader to hesitate, highlighting the double standard regarding consumer data privacy. This intense exchange directly aligns with Republican priorities concerning Big Tech accountability, data protection, and digital freedom. Conservatives consistently argue that massive technology corporations infringe upon user privacy while escaping the rigorous transparency standards imposed on others. By exposing these corporate contradictions, Republican lawmakers champion the protection of everyday citizens against intrusive digital tracking and corporate overreach. The viral moment underscores the broader political battle over regulating powerful technology monopolies that dictate modern public discourse. Congressional oversight serves as a vital tool for holding unelected tech executives responsible for how they handle sensitive information and user rights. Highlighting these sharp legislative confrontations reinforces the conservative commitment to defending individual liberties against corporate surveillance and big tech bias. #BigTech #DataPrivacy #USPolitics #SenateHearing #FreeSpeech
How are you managing with childcare over the six weeks holiday? Can an employer work from home with children around? There is no law that says employees cannot work from home with children present. However, whether it is appropriate will depend on a number of factors, including: The age of the child. A sleeping baby, an independent teenager and a toddler all present very different practical considerations. The nature of the employee's role. Jobs requiring constant telephone calls, confidential meetings, concentration or customer interaction may be more difficult to perform while caring for children. Whether the employee can still carry out their contractual duties during working hours. Health and safety. Employers still have a duty to ensure, so far as reasonably practicable, the health and safety of employees working from home. If children create hazards or distractions that make the working environment unsafe, this may need to be addressed. Data protection and confidentiality. Employees handling personal data or commercially sensitive information must ensure it remains secure. Young children accessing paperwork, screens or confidential conversations could present a data protection risk. The employer's homeworking policy. Many policies make it clear that homeworking is not a substitute for childcare and that suitable childcare arrangements should normally be in place during working hours. Ultimately, the key question is not simply whether children are at home, but whether the employee can safely and effectively perform their role, comply with confidentiality and data protection obligations, and meet the standards reasonably expected by their employer. *Not legal advice. Only 30% of 2025 graduates landed a job related to their degree. These 8 skills are what actually get you hired and keep you employable, no matter what you studied. 1. Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving. Questioning assumptions, analysing information, and identifying gaps. Thinking outside of the box and finding solutions. 2. Professional Judgement. Exercising your judgement to solve grey areas with ethical solutions. 3. Communication. Writing clearly, presenting well, translating complexities into simplification so people can actually act on. 4. Financial & Business Literacy. Understanding how a company makes money, reads a P&L, thinks about risk. This one is useful in any role. 5. AI Fluency (not coding). Prompting, judgment, knowing when to trust vs. verify output. A literacy everyone needs now, not a technical skill. 6. Cybersecurity Awareness. Not hacking or coding. Just understanding risk, data protection, and why every company now needs people who think this way. 7. Cloud & Digital Basics. Not engineering. Just knowing how AWS/Azure/Google Cloud fit into how modern businesses run, so you’re not lost in the conversation. 8. Adaptability/ agility. The meta-skill. Comfort with ambiguity and being able to pivot as roles / job market shift. Which one are you weakest on? Before you close your laptop and walk into the sea — read this first. 👇 You just sent a confidential email to the wrong person. Here’s exactly what to do in the next ten minutes. 1. Do not recall the email Every instinct will tell you to hit recall. Don’t. A recall request simply alerts the recipient that something sensitive was sent, draws more attention to it, and rarely works anyway. Step away from that button. Also - external emails are never successfully recalled. 2. Tell your supervisor immediately Do not sit on this. Do not wait to see if anyone notices. Walk over or pick up the phone right now. “I need to flag something urgently — I’ve just sent an email containing confidential information to the wrong recipient. I wanted to tell you straight away.” They need to know so the firm can act fast. Every minute counts. 3. Assess the damage What was actually in that email? Was it client names? Privileged legal advice? Commercially sensitive information? The severity of the situation determines the next steps — which is exactly why your supervisor needs to be in the loop immediately. This may need to be reported under data protection obligations and your firm will know how to handle that. 4. Contact the recipient Once you have spoken to your supervisor and have a plan — contact the recipient. Keep it professional and direct. “I have just realised I sent an email to you in error. The contents are confidential and not intended for you. Could you please delete it without reading further and confirm you have done so?” Most people will comply. Most people are decent. This is one of those moments that feels career ending and absolutely is not. It happens. Even to senior lawyers. What matters is that you act fast, you are transparent, and you do not try to hide it. Save this before you need it. Because nobody ever thinks they will need it — until they do. 🔖 [junior lawyer, legal career, corporate law, lawyers, career advice, lawyer, corporate law, tips and tricks, fyp, explore page, viral, trending, london, junior lawyer, corporate girl, office etiquette, drafting, deals, for you page, explore page] #explorepage #london #vira

Database: Replication vs. Backups! Replication is not a backup. Real-time replicas ensure high availability by taking over instantly when a primary database crashes. However, replication also mirrors mistakes. An accidental DELETE command propagates to every replica instantly. True data protection requires isolated, offline backups stored separately from live systems to restore lost data. Replication protects uptime; backups protect data integrity. #Databases #DevOps #SystemDesign #BackendDevelopment #dataengineering
🚨 EU & Germany considering a ban on Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses Hamburg’s data protection commissioner says the glasses can enable covert recording because the tiny recording LED is too easy for people nearby to notice. Germany’s Federal Network Agency is examining the issue, while European privacy regulators are also scrutinizing the technology. Meta has already introduced safeguards that disable the camera if the privacy LED is tampered with. Smart glasses are becoming the next major privacy battle.
