@nytopinion columnist and bestselling author David Brooks is known for bringing his thoughtful reflections on politics and culture, but at the 2024 Aspen Ideas Festival, he started off his talk a little differently. In rapid-fire succession, Brooks offered the audience over a dozen tidbits of practical wisdom. From taking responsibility for your actions and making decisions to dealing with jerks and aging gracefully, this 90-second burst of life hacks is well worth your time.
We end this season of Wild with an ep for the David Brooks fans!! David is both one of America’s best-known conservative commentators (@nytopinion @NPR @theatlantic) and one of its most committed to pushing the case for deep moral discussion (readers of my books probably know I quote his work a lot, particularly around “moral boundaries” and developing character). Today we discuss whether humanism – coming back to moral, generous interactions with others – is the fix for our polarising times. We discuss whether you can be “right” with the Middle East conflict, the best-ever dinner party conversation starters (the only kind I’m interested in playing with), and whether civilizational collapse is preventable. He has ideas… listen via the links in my bio and stories. Enjoy ✌🏼 #wildwithsarahwilson #davidbrooks
David Brooks explains how to lead with defiant humanism. Listen to the full conversation at ttf.org

In the latest cover story for The Atlantic, contributing writer David Brooks explains how President Trump’s second term has transformed America’s role in the world. He joins @katyturnbc to explain more on the shift. #news #politics #trump
I've had the honor of knowing David Brooks for years. I admire him and have been deeply moved, informed, inspired, and bettered by his books and talks. He was a Republican when I met him. I don't know his party affiliation now. What I do know is he has always been a man of virtue, objective reasoning, pragmatism, wisdom, and invaluable insights. What he states here is painful and true. I will continue to fight to stop this awful reality undermining good governance and causing such awful impact on dedicated public servants who are doing vital work for our safety, strength and national security.

In The Road to Character, David Brooks talks about the difference between a career and a vocation. A career pays the bills. A vocation feeds the soul. Sometimes, you need the career to fund the vocation—because let’s be honest, the work that calls you deeply might not come with a salary. But that doesn’t make it any less real, or any less necessary. The challenge is to not lose your sense of calling while doing what’s required to survive. Use the career as a tool. Honor the vocation as the truth. #VocationAndCareer #RoadToCharacter #PurposeAndPracticality #FeedTheCalling #ModernBalance
