Remember the tree bees from last week? Four days ago I added about a pound of @hivealivebees fondant and about half a gallon of 2:1 sugar syrup with Hive Alive liquid supplement. Their comb is filled with the syrup and the fondant is almost gone.
I still didn’t spot the queen, and went through them twice. We are in a dearth so I couldn’t keep them open very long. I’ll look again in a few days. If there is no queen, they will be joined with another small colony.

Had to pull some mostly empty supers from a few hives to mite treat today, while I don’t love open feeding, storing them with wet uncapped nectar just wasn’t my best option (the freezer I use for frames is full).
This was literally 10 minutes after I put them out, far away from my hives so I don’t incite a robbing situation.
Can’t wait until our Fall flow hits and the goldenrod and Japanese knotweed are blooming! The strongest hives with the most resources in the brood boxes will get these supers so I can pull some amazing, dark fall honey!

Now these flying critters are always allowed. If they were the ones in the bay window I would let them stay. Key fact: right now in North GA we are starting to go into DEARTH! Which means the bees can’t find a good food/pollen/nectar source. It’s good to put some extra sugary water outside during this time to supplement their food supply for winter. But don’t worry the golden rod will bloom soon and they can goto town on that! #honeybees #dearth #goldenrod

We are typically in a dearth around these parts this time of year. A dearth in the world of bees means a time of scarcity, specifically in regards to nectar and pollen resources. Many bees were very curious about me and several other vendors last night at @missionksmarket confirming that we are, indeed, in a dearth. This little lady was dead set on taking some of the sweet stuff back.

Did you know that honeybees face challenging times called “nectar dearths”? 🌸 During these periods, there’s a scarcity of nectar-producing flowers, making it tough for bees to find the food they need. This often happens in mid to late summer when the weather is hot and dry. My honeybees are finding some refuge in the hummingbird feeders around the property. There’s plenty to go around so my remaining hummingbirds are enjoying some sips before they leave for their migration.
