'Big tent' is a metaphor for a container wide enough for: community organizers, issue-area advocates, institutional reformers, bridge-builders, dialogue practitioners, faith leaders, veterans and military families, business executives, labor unions, professional associations, artists and cultural workers, youth leaders, and more.
When these actors move together, the goal extends beyond opposing authoritarianism.
The work becomes about building the democratic future we want to inhabit

Democracies don’t have a monopoly on international cooperation. Autocracies are building their own networks.

NGOs play a major role in modern activism and policy advocacy. But disclosure rules, reporting delays, and fiscal sponsorship can limit public visibility into who funds what.
Oversight lags behind complexity.

Eminent domain: meant for public good, but often devastates marginalized communities. Economic disparities amplify the harm. A critical look at fairness. #EminentDomain #SocialJustice #CommunityImpact #EconomicDisparities #UrbanPlanning #Policy #Fairness
Futures in Draft is a collaborative project that centers learning through listening, and that’s why it’s shaped by the ideas and experiences of those already working in and curious about the work of alternative futures.
This work has included collaborating with an advisory group of nine cultural practitioners working on alternative futures projects across the UK.
The group has been integral to shaping the project and guiding the content and intention of Futures in Draft.

Most inequality isn’t intentional.
It is designed into everyday systems.
In workplaces, classrooms and institutions we often assume fairness means treating everyone the same.
But when systems are built around dominant norms, equal treatment can reproduce unequal outcomes.
This is why equity work cannot stop at intention.
It has to examine design.
Who defines competence?
Whose communication styles are rewarded?
What knowledge is treated as neutral?
Systems shape behaviour long before individuals make decisions.
That is where meaningful change begins.

Make participation normal again.
Large-scale governance systems create distance between decision and consequence.
When policies are abstract, engagement drops.
When decisions feel remote, responsibility diffuses.
This is not a cultural flaw.
It is a scale issue.
At smaller, human-scale levels, the feedback loop tightens:
Shared budgets.
Shared infrastructure.
Shared land.
Clear roles.
Participation increases when impact is visible and immediate.
Regenerative community design reduces the distance between governance and daily life.
Not everyone needs to vote on everything.
But everyone should be close enough to matter.
At what scale does participation become natural instead of forced?

A fascinating breakdown of the calculated semantic gymnastics governments employ to maintain deniability. This perspective unpacks the dangerous art of narrowing complicity down to the precise second a strike package leaves the ground, leaving all the crucial preparatory steps—refueling, maintenance, intelligence relay—in a safe legal grey zone. It’s a maneuver designed to shield the politician’s public stance while dangerously misdirecting accountability elsewhere. The kicker: this carefully constructed loophole fails the second the logistical footprint becomes visible from space. If a location is truly off limits, why are its air assets constantly functioning as a platform during a tightening crisis? A sharp look at how language is weaponized as a political safety net.
