Forgotten in a quiet rural neighborhood in Cream Ridge, New Jersey, stand the crumbling ruins of the old Lincoln blacksmith shop.
Once a working stone forge along the Cream Ridge road, this shop is historically linked to Abraham Lincoln’s New Jersey ancestors through documented local tradition and early 20th‑century research. The structure marked the site of a blacksmith business operated by Abraham Lincoln’s relative, recorded as a blacksmith whose shop “still stands” to mark the family’s iron forge.
Today, only broken walls and weathered stone remain, hidden behind modern homes, trees, and fields in a rural residential stretch of Upper Freehold Township. No signs, no exhibits, just ruins sitting in the middle of a neighborhood where most people drive past without realizing the connection to the Lincoln family’s early history in New Jersey.
Standing here, you’re looking at one of Monmouth County’s quietly documented historic sites: an early blacksmith shop tied to the Lincoln name, slowly disappearing into the landscape of a modern country road. #newjersey #history #monmouthcountynj #ruins #gooutside
The Mortar Man in Charleston West Virginia #foryoupageシ #life #history #WestVirginia
The Lexington Minute Men are looking for new blood. But becoming a revolutionary reenactor isn’t cheap. It can cost as much as $7,000 to buy all the necessary clothing and equipment that’s required. So they’ve launched a fundraising campaign to make it more affordable for young people who want to join. WBZ’s Eric Fisher, who is emceeing the Minute Men’s “Ignite the Night” dinner on April 2nd, visited Buckman Tavern in Lexington to learn more — and got suited up in full uniform!
Tickets are still available for “Ignite the Night” — at LexingtonMinuteMen.com/tickets.

Pirates in Illinois?
It sounds far-fetched — but in the late 1700s and early 1800s it was a real fear for anyone traveling the Ohio River.
River pirates, smugglers, and outlaw gangs once roamed the bluffs around Cave-In-Rock, Illinois, ambushing settlers as they traveled downriver.
For years, this stretch of the Ohio River was one of the most dangerous places in early America.

Recognize where the first image was taken? If you said the building that is now the Atlantic House Restaurant, you would be correct! ⬇️
This location in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey was allegedly used as a speakeasy during Prohibition, and later owned by local bootlegger Andy Richard. He operated a liquor store and bar there called Andy’s Tavern.
People may also remember the long-running BBQ restaurant, Memphis Pig Out, which occupied that building for nearly four decades. The opening picture dates to the mid-1930’s. Richard himself (whom newspapers always misspelled as Richards) purchased the property in 1935.
A year earlier, Richard was one of three main suspects in the murder of Al Lillien, a man nicknamed “The King of the Liquor Smugglers”. Their syndicate was based out of a mansion on the hillside, sitting on the border of Atlantic Highlands and Middletown. Richard was in charge of the “land operations”. The other two suspects were Vito Genovese and John Calandriello. All three rose in prominence immediately following. The case is still open/unsolved today, due to a border dispute between police departments that led to it becoming virtually uninvestigated.

It was a little surreal catching these guys marching by at just this moment. Just definitely a moment that made my history heart happy.

To me, Lexington center has been the place where I used to go for dentists visits. It’s another stop on a bike path. It’s a place where they have “that old statue in the center” of some colonial guy.
To the rest of the country - it’s where the American Revolution started.
It’s where the shot heard around the world took place.
But I never knew what Buckman Tavern was until I walked in. I didn’t know who the statue was until I took a tour. I didn’t even know a “battle green” existed until 2025.
I had to go there to hear it for myself. In 35 years…why have I never heard this story?
